ROME
GREECE
Many Roman theaters and stadiums were larger than those of the Greeks.  Also, the Romans built their theaters and stadiums in many geographic areas, while the Greeks chose to build in specific areas.

The Romans were able to make rain covers for their stadiums, an engineering feat.  The Colosseum had a large tarp which was possible to assemble in 5 minutes and protected the spectator from rain, snow, and sleet.  Some of the Roman venues were designed not just for plays and orations, but for dinner parties and personal celebrations.

The Romans strongly believed that real, not staged, murder and suicide should always be included in their plays.  When a murder was about to take place in one of their plays or dramas, the Romans would take out the actor that is about to be killed and replace him with a slave or a prisoner.
Greek amphitheaters were built into hillsides.  The rows of seats followed the curve of the hill to the top.  Greek design was simple.  Many of the amphitheaters were very similar in structure and design.  Almost all were semi-circular in shape.  All were built so that spectators had a great view of the land behind the theater.
SIMILARITIES
Rome and Greece had the same basic ideas concerning the creation of pillars, poles, doric, corinthian and other architectures.  Both valued architecture and entertainment in their daily lives.  Both were especially fond of spectator sports.
