8TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS

We will use the 1st third of the 4th quarter to review the literary devices used in poetry. Students will practice analyzing poems and creating their own original work.
The second 3rd of the quarter we will look into the theory of the outsider through the use of Literature Circles. Students will evaluate their treatment of others and the subjectivity of social grouping.
The last part of the quarter will be spent evaluation bias in the media. We will use a variety of non-fiction texts & documentaries to understand how bias is used to provide info about issues in society.. Students will choose a social issue about which they are concerned and complete a final project. Presentations will take place during exam week.
