Hours at Work: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
First task for the day was the weekly RISE lab meeting. Today we
discussed the Keithley instrumentation the lab has and the specs for those
instruments (namely the K236 and K617). Also we delved into planning
out how to setup the instrumentation for the tests using the GPIB
capabilities. This discussion also included the controls, constants,
and variables we will encounter in trying to determine the current (which is
the core of what we're trying to measure).
That meeting took up until lunch time and then the 4 RISE girls along
with Pamela and Jean-Marie went to eat at a nice little restaurant on campus
called Adele's. We sat and ate a nice lunch and discussed careers,
etc. within the engineering world. This lunch discussion was prompted
mainly because one of the girls in the my RISE lab group isn't sure that
electrical engineering is what she wants to be getting into as a career.
After lunch, one minor adjustment had to be made to the potbox. So
that was fixed up and today I took a picture of the wiring as of now (before
the chip being tested is mounted inside the potbox). Black wires are
ground and red wires are 'hot' voltages.
We also tested out the final oscilloscope (we couldn't do
that yesterday because it was being used).
Finally we started working on making the triax cables we'd
need. Amy and I actually stayed later than Lindsay and Maria in order
to finish the two cables we were going to need to set up our testing
instrumentation. Here's a picture of Amy and Maria working on the
first cable.
Anyway, that's about all for today... it was a fairly
uneventful day, but hey, I'm not going to complain. :) |
