| On the left hand side of this page you will see displayed (not actual size) a jewel issued by the Apprentice Boys of Derry to commemorate the end of the second millennium of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ's ministry. The Jewel depicts the Protestant St Columb's Cathedral in Londonderry flying the crimson flag, raised by Colonel John Mitchelburne during the Siege of Derry. The City of Londonderry coat of arms is also included. The jewel is surrounded by a ring of oak leaves and acorns as the city was established from a Christian settlement founded by the City's Patron Saint, St Columb in an oak grove on the west bank of the river Foyle. The Protestant St Columb's Cathedral in which the residents of the City took shelter and prayed for deliverance during the Siege of 1688-1689, stands on the site of the original religious settlement. The name Derry derives from the Irish for oak grove. |
| The jewel is priced at £16 for delivery to addresses in the British Isles (UK, RoI, IoM and Channel Islands), for orders from the Rest of the World price payable is £17:50. As the Jewel is a limited edition of 2000, this is sure to be of interest to collectors.
