San Cristobal De Las Casas & Canyon Sumidero
We arrived from an overnight bus journey at about 7.30am, which gave us enough time to find a hostal and arrange a trip to the Canyon Sumidero.  A few hours later and we were on a launch speeding along the Rio Grijalva towards the canyon.  The canyon was truely awesome with the sides looming 800m above us.  At some points the water was 260m deep, and we were told that this was the site where several hundred Indians threw themselves to their death to avoid capture by the Spanish Conquistadores.  We were also lucky to see lots of wildlife including a few crocodiles, iguanas, and plenty of birds.
