Band:  Miss July
Title:  A New Level of Cool CD-R
Label:  Blind as a Bat
Info:  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Brilliant female-fronted jangling pop from Tallahassee Florida! Campbell Austin is the main songwriter here, and she whips up more catchy hooks and songs than you would think possible. However, behind that upbeat guitar pop façade is a torrent of biting and scathing lyrics that will make you smirk with even more delight. Occasional additional instrumentation like keyboard, clarinet, etc. makes things even more tops! And the vocal interplay between Campbell and Erin will have you jealous for ages. 10 tracks housed in a lovingly handmade "200% recycled paper" package. Sweet! This review really does not give this CD justice-- this is just a must hear, trust me! Perhaps for fans of Go Sailor or Dressy Bessy, though they certainly have a more developed and original sound all their own. Get on this before they get huge (and they will!) and you can say you knew them before...

Don't miss Miss July
by Kati Shardl

Finally! I've been dropping hints as subtle as lead weights for months about how I'd love to have a copy of Miss July's debut recording, "A New Level of Cool," and at last I have it in my sweaty, eager grip. It was definitely worth the wait. The disc crackles with impudent energy, irresistible hooks, and super-sassy lyrics courtesy of singer/guitarist/chief songwriter Campbell Austin. And I love the band members' girlhood photos on the CD cover. Find out just how hard chicks can rock when Miss July plays at tonight's bumbleBEAR Records showcase featuring Bugs Eat Books and Dipstick & Eggnog at the Thunderdome.
