Our Ancestors.....a continued story..........

Ira Smith Horning & Dorothy Oliphant

Ira Smith Horning was the Oldest child of Jeremiah and Charity Smith Horning.  He was born April 9,1832.

He married Dorothy Oliphant on November 1,1857 in Glanford Township, Ontario, Canada.

Ira Smith Horning was 25 when he married Dorothy, and she was 18.

It seems old Ira was a bit of a "cradle robber"

Course in those days who cared !

They must have liked each other somewhat because they managed to have a whole bunch of babies.

Ira Smith DeWitt was the natural child of Jonathan DeWitt, and Selena Horning.  There are notes from my records made by Vona E. Smith from a bible owned by  Clifford Jerome, who was a Stoney Creek , Ontario fruit farmer.  William Jerome (1842-1918) married Lousetta Horning (1843-1908) Their grandson was Clifford.  It appears that Jonathan DeWitt died in 1885 at Tapleytown, Ontario, when his son Ira Smith DeWitt was only one year old.  My records show that Selena re-married to Henry Ralston.

Also noted is that Jonathans brother, Charles De Witt, married Julia Ann Horning, who was the daughter of Jeremiah Horning and Charity Smith Horning.   I'm confused...........are you?

Whatever.......I guess they all worked it out.
