Instead of getting fast food for lunch, why not try this simple menu? Lunch is a great way to enjoy family time.
 

  On the menu today are spoonburgers and cut-up fresh veggies. Enjoy! Spoonburgers are essentially sloppy joes with a twist. This recipe makes 8 sandwiches.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground meat (ground chuck works well)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3/4 c. Dr Pepper
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • A few drops of Tabasco sauce, if desired
  • 8 sandwich buns, split

Directions:

  • Cook meat, crumbling it as you go.
  • Add onion, garlic, and salt to taste. Cook 5 minutes
  • Add Dr Pepper, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and tabasco sauce. Simmer 20 minutes or until thick.
  • Spoon on to sandwich buns.

  • If you're looking to cut fat and calories, you can use ground turkey, pork, or chicken instead of beef.
  • Use no-salt-added tomato paste if you're concerned about sodium.
  • If you're in a rush, you can use jarred minced garlic instead of fresh. Check the label to see how much you need.

 

 

Button Cut-up fresh veggies make a nutritious and tasty alternative to potato chips. While the spoonburger meat is cooking, why not fix a plate of broccoli flowerets, cauliflowerets, celery, and carrots with a bowl of Ranch dressing?
