Welcome

The health topics in this section of my site were chosen because I suffer from them and would like to share what I have learned about them. I hope that my own experiences will help you.

How are women's needs and health different from those of men? Not everyone understands why so many sites are dedicated to women, but I think that our needs are different for the following reasons:

Psychologically, I believe that women are guided more by emotions; whereas men are guided more by reason. Being the only woman at my work place, I see this frequently. Whereas the men will say, "Here are the reasons this won't work," I am more likely to say, "I don't think this will work because I don't feel right about it." (If you think about it, women's intuition is often correct.)
Physically, it is obvious how we differ. We have different hormones and a different physical makeup from men. (I haven't seen any gynecologists or obstetricians for men lately...)
Socially, I think that women are held to a higher standard than men are. It seems to be more socially acceptable for a man to be less than physically perfect than it does for a woman. If a man ogles a beautiful woman, he is "a red-blooded male," but a woman who looks twice at an attractive man is seen as a flirt or a "pants chaser."

I suffer from depression, asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, skin disorders, and a hormonal imbalance. I'll be talking a little about my own experiences with these ailments on the next few pages.
