Ode to Irwin Allen
(to the tune of Barbara Allen)

On ABC in sixty three
A new world was a-bornin'

A fantastic world dreamed by one man
A man named Irwin Allen

To see the world under the sea
Aboard a  sub named Seaview
To fight earth's foes and end man's woes
Or so said Irwin Allen

The Admiral had to be recast
Can't afford Walter Pigeon
And so Basehart signed to be the man
'Though he was short a smigeon.

Then Hedison agreed to be
A braver Captain Crane
He was brave and handsome, smarter too
Than that old 'what's-his-name'

And Bob Dowdell agreed to be
The Exec known as Chip
And except for one bad episode
Would rarely leave the ship.

Of all the crew on this great show
None had been in the Movie
Except for on, named Del Monroe
Who reprised his Kowalski

They sailed the seas for four long years
Defeating every terror
Those who thought Irwin would loose his shirt
Found that they were mistaken.

Then Lost in Space and Time Tunnel
And then Land of the Giants
Four fantastic worlds brought to us by
A man named Irwin Allen.
