Up

Meanwhile we settled in fine and started working on a lot of little things.

First there were the engine bases for the diesel engines.

It starts with a rough shape

then, after we're sure it fits fine, all the edges get rounded to allow glassing them. A dummy engine in form of a MDF plate is screwed on to be sure that they don't only fit into the hull, but that the engines fit on as well:

Then somebody has to glue them in

and here we've got the result. They just need to be glassed now. Next time (OK there will be NO NEXT TIME) we'll glass them before we fit them - that was no fun in there...

Each engine will have the prop protected by a skeg:

It starts as usual, just glue a stack of wood, plane it,

06.27. rough skeg

then shape it,

cut it into two parts to have a place for the prop shaft

06.27. cut skeg

add the tubes for the shafts and some layers of unidirectionals

07.28. assembled skeg

and then glass the whole skeg.

07.28. finished skegs

Then there is the aft beam and cockpit area that needs finishing, here we bring the 'back wall' of the aft beam into shape. The aluminum back plate for the main sheet track is glued into the bonding angle that'll hold the top of the beam. We produce the bonding angle upside down on the floor as that's much easier than on the boat.

Then we produce lot's of bonding angles and tapes in the aft beam. Inspection hatches are cut into each compartment.

And here's the result with the 'back wall' already in place:

Next we need a cockpit seat

06.27. cockpit seat

and gas lockers

07.28. gas locker

And the cockpit seat gets lockers with drains (don't like wet stuff in our lockers)

07.28. locker drain

the drains then get glassed on all sides

and then the seat is fitted in the cockpit:

The cockpit will have a double floor, supported by a plywood web. Tubes for cables, engine control cables are integrated and the beautiful black tube in the front is part of the steering system (transversal torque tube)
