Welcome To
Milkhouse Lops Rabbitry!!
Welcome to my page of Mini Lop Rabbits. I raise my Mini Lops for breeding, showing, and pets. I have been raising them for about 4 years now. I attended my first show about 3 1/2 years ago and I was hooked!
I now have about a 30 hole rabbitry, give or take a few. I keep and breed up to 6 does per year depending on several things. My rabbitry barn is an old Milkhouse, hence the name of the rabbitry. The barn has concrete floors and block walls up about 4 feet. The rest is wood construction. The concrete and block walls help maintain cooler temperatures in the summer and warmth in the winter. There are numberous windows which can be removed to allow airflow thru the barn. The roof also allows for ventilation.
I purchased some Extrona Cages a few years back which I really like for the does kindling. The nest box is attached to the back of the cage and the doe accesses it through a hole. The nest box is lower than the floor of the cage by about 5" and gives the doe a feeling of going into a hole. They and the kits seem to do very well in these, it gives them a sense of security. I can then open the nestbox from the outside and access the kits with the doe locked out.
The remainder of the cages consists of 3 hole stackers and one wooden hutch which has two large holes in it. One I use for storing hay to feed and the other is my breeding cage.
Angel is my first Grand Champion Mini Lop bred and raised in my barn. She is a beautiful Black Chinchilla (When she isn't molting!) She has a good head, good shoulders, good topline and hindquarter. She is just a TAD long overall to balance. I hope to have a litter out of her this fall/winter.
UPDATE!! I had thought Angel missed when I bred her. I checked again to find she will be kindling the first of next week!!!! She is bred to B's Kirby a buck I bought from Barbara Yates! Kirby is a nice solid Chestnut buck. I look forward to seeing their kids!
