Mammoth Ivory
When woolly mammoths roamed the earth, our ancestors lived with them and
used the woolly mammoth tusks as ivory for making tools and figurines. When
woolly mammoths died out, our ancestors continued to carve woolly mammoth
ivory. They would find bodies of woolly mammoths preserved in the Arctic Ice
and permafrost. After that they would take their tusks and use the ivory for
making tools and other carvings. This carving of woolly mammoth ivory has
been passed on from generation to generation among our people and it still
exists.
