Altars
An Altar is a magical place of worship. Many religions have them: Christianity,Judaism.Practically in every religion there is one.In wicca we use the Altar to honour the God and Goddess. We also decorate it according to the corresponding sabbat. On your altar you can pray, perform rituals, magick and even meditate. It can be absolutely anything from a chest of drawers to a shelf in a bookcase. On your altar you would place anything that has a special meaning to you,for example if you had a liking for the sea (like me!) then you could place some sea shells that you have collected. This way it would make the altar seem more special to you instead of something out of a book.A lot of people also have on their altars something to represent the God and Goddess, chalice, pentacle, athame or a wheel of the year; its really up to you to what you put on it and what works for you. Theres no point in setting up an altar that doesn't feel right to you. When you place a tool on it you can either place it on the left or the right hand side depending on whether it corresponds to the God or the Goddess. The tools that correspond with the Goddess are: Chalice, pentacle, bell, crystals and cauldron (sometimes the cauldron is too big so it can sit on the floor), these tools should all be on the left. The tools that correspond with the God are: Censer, wand, athame and Bolline and these should be on the right. There is also another way to set up an altar. This way corresponds with the elements: Earth- north,Fire - South,Water- west and Air - east.Personally on my altar I correspond with the God and Goddess. On my altar beside the God and Goddess symbols I have a little tealight in a glass tealight holder at each side.
