2009 Fishing Reports and River Conditions

4-18-09

I fished the river the river for a few hours by myself on April 11th. Surface temp did rise a degree and hung around 43.5 degrees with water clarity was good but not great. I would not call this trip awesome trip but, I did end the night going 1 for 2. I lost one fish at the back of the boat and had ended up releasing a nice eater in the 22" inch range. I really did not want to break out the fillet knife for one fish. At least I know there is one fish for me to catch on the next trip out.

Aaron and I hit the river on the 16th and went 3 for 4. Surface temps were still in hanging in the middle 40's (43.5 to be exact) and the water clarity was slightly dirty. Not really good for jigging anglers but still good for handlining. Although we did run pencil baits for a while the fish still seemed to favor #11 or #9 Rapala's.

Aaron hit the river last night (april 17th), details and photos from this trip to follow. Aaron is hitting the river tonight, my plan is to do the same. Please be sure to visit again for updates.

Happy Easter!

Aaron and I hit the river for the first time for 2009 on wednesday in my boat. Unlike years past we would been on the river serval times already. A motor problem with Aaron's boat prevented us from fishing the week before as planned. The comfort fishing out of Aaron's 16 Footer is quite apparent after fishing from my 14 footer for the night. (Anyone looking into a boat for the river should really consider something 16 foot or larger.)

The surface temp was 41.5 degrees in the middle and around 42.5-42.9 in the discharge area, it was quite obvious that the Power plant was not pupming water. Water clarity was good to excellent.

We hit the water around 7:45pm and finished the evening with 3 nice Walleye in the 20-22 inch range. We ran a variety of colors and sizes and found the best luck with #11 Rapala's in Chartreuse and Orange.

I will be hitting the river over the next couple of days and will provide an updated report or two throughout the weekend.

Hope you had a great winter and welcome back!

I am sure you are wondering where or should I say when the 2009 reports will start. Well... Aaron, Scott, Danny, Pops and the rest of the crew have not hit the river yet. There have been a few anglers on the river over the last week or two. With the cold water temps I have not heard much going on. Last I heard the surface temp was still in the mid 30's.

Traditionally we would have hit the river the beginning of March. Should the weather cooperate I hope to make a trip out in the next couple of days for a shakedown run of the boat. Please look for updates in the near future.

Until my next report start tying up those leaders and respooling those reels.
