Michael and Tanya
Michael and Tanya

Michael and Tanya first met on campus in 1995. Michael was working for the National Union of Students and Tanya for the University of New England Students Association. Their relationship developed during a campaign to affiliate UNE to NUS. They lost the campaign, but their relationship had started.

After being together for six years, nobody can accuse them of rushing things. The wedding day 21 April, 2001, will also be their six year anniversary – this appeals to Tanya’s romanticism, and also means there is a fair chance Michael will remember their anniversary!

Tanya and Michael both have strong bonds of family and shared experience with the Hunter region. Although Tanya now lives in Sydney, the Hunter is where she grew up, and both she and Michael have spent much time together there. This is why they have decided to have their wedding in the Hunter, sharing their connection with the area with friends and family.

To Michael and Tanya their wedding is the most significant event in their lives so far. It provides a chance to reflect on their lives and their relationships. It will also be the first time that all the people who are important to them will be together in the same place. By gathering all the people close to them, to witness their marriage, they make them all a part of their relationship.

They hope above all that their wedding day will be fun. A marriage is a celebration, a celebration is a time to gather friends, re-acquaint friends and make new friends. Of course it is also a time to enjoy good food and wine, and where better than in the gorgeous Hunter Valley!
