Dykes Out in Atlanta
When I moved to Atlanta close to a year ago, I realized right away that I was in a gay friendly city. A minor problem, however, was finding out where to go out.  Since most of the gay guides I looked up were catered towards men, I decided to make this simple listing of goings on for the more sappho leaning newcomers and visitors. I'm sure to miss alot, so if you notice anything or have any input or questions, e-mail meztli81@yahoo.com.
Bars/Clubs - Note:  Generalizations about an establishment's clientele regarding ethnicity, age, or dress are simply meant to be descriptive and not to offend or imply that all people aren't welcome there.

New* - Eyzonme Productions - Lesbian run production company throwing new womens' parties at Club 708 every Sunday and starting March 31 the grand opening for Warehouse @ Traxx every Wednesday. Visit site for details.

My Sister's Room -  The only full time lesbian club in Atlanta, this casual club is the center of lesbian nightlife in town.  Saturday nights is when it gets packed, bringing together women of different ages, styles and ethnicities. Wensdays, Thursdays and Fridays have a much smaller and mostly 20s/30s crowd. My Sister's Room also hosts different shows throughout the year. The club is 21 and up, cover or no cover depends on the night. On Sundays they will now be showing The L Word. Be warned about the rude staff. See website for details.    My Sister's Room, 222 E. Howard St., Decatur, 404-370-1990.

Tower II - On Saturday nights and the first and third Thursday of every month, the Tower is home to a mostly African-American lesbian crowd.  Every second and fourth Thursday, however, the Tower is home to Cliterati, an awesome spoken word/poetry night for lesbos, feminists, punks, transgendered, progressives.  This is done with both open mic and featured guests.  Tower II, 735 Ralph Mcgill Blvd., Atlanta, 404-523-1535.

Thursdays at Hoedowns - Thursday nights at Hoedowns draws a large, mostly lesbian crowd from all over the city.  It's a country western bar and it looks like what you'd expect from a southern country dance hall.  Although the music playing isn't always country, the dancing is, and it's not unusual to see people line dancing to pop or r&b.  The crowd ranges from older cowgirls to young punks.  It's free entrance for ladies on Thursdays and they host country dancing lessons at different times.   Hoedowns, 931 Monroe Dr., Atlanta, 404-876-0001

Traxx Night Club - Traxx is a multi-level, hip-hop, gay dance club that has been rated one of the best dance clubs in town.  The crowd is predominately African-American. Good drink specials.
Traxx Night Club - 306 Luckie St. Atlanta 404-681-4422.

LeBuzz Cafe and Bar - Marietta's only gay club, this place gets a nice mixed male/femiale crowd from up above the perimeter.  Thursdays nights are ladies nights, with drag kings performing at 10 pm.  LeBuzz, 585 Franklin Rd. SE, Longhorn Plaza, Marietta, 770-424-1337.

Mary's - East Atlanta's only gay club, this club draws the typical East Atlanta crowd, misfits, stylish punks, and normal folks too. Real comfortable place. While it is mixed, it's mostly men, but has a nice lesbian percentage on Tuesdays and Saturdays, maybe other nights as well.   Mary's, 1287 Glenwood Ave, East Atlanta, 404-624-4411

Tuesday at Red Chair - Very nice video lounge. It's mostly for hip gay boys, but the first Tuesday of every month is for the ladies.  Some really cute girls come out to see drag kings perform.   Red Chair Restaurant and Video Lounge, 550-C Amsterdam Ave., Atlanta, 404-870-0532.

Girls in the Night - Throws lesbian events with a r&b edge at Lava Lounge.

El Chaparral on Fridays - On Friday nights, El Chaparral becomes a haven for gay latinos living in Atlanta. Like the music and show, the crowd is mostly in Spanish, but not everybody is latino and all are welcome. The music is mostly international dance beats.  It's mixed male/female. They're going to start an Asian gay night on Wensdays.   El Chaparral, Buford Highway, still looking for address/phone.

Rico's View - Nice, comfortable little gay place on Ponce.  Mostly African-American, mixed sex lounge.  Women's groups hold different meetings there on Fridays.  Rico's View, 736 Ponce de Leon Ave., Atlanta 404-873-3220.

Eddie's Attic - Not a gay establishment but very lesbian popular during the day and at night.  One of the best live music venues in town, Eddie's Attic features various artists, including alot of folk artists.  Located in downtown Decatur, it brings out alot of local lesbos(including Indigo Girls) when a favorite women musician is featured. Very nice place.  Eddie's Attic, 515-B North Mcdonough St. Decatur, 404-377-4976.

Trackside Tavern - Not a gay establishment but gets an honorable mention for being in Decatur and having an alright Agnes Scott College girl turnout.  If you like bikers, college kids and occasional weird lesbians, it's an alright place.  Beware, some call it crackside.  Trackside Tavern 313 E. College Ave., Decatur, 404-378-3607.

Tuesdays at Twain's Billards- Tuesday nights, women play free pool at Twains with a $12 tab.  The girl turnout seems to vary month to month, but you can always count on one lesbo and a few Anges Scott girls to be there.  Great pool place, to, with smoking and nonsmoking rooms  Twain's Billards, 211 E. Trinity Place, Decatur, 404-373-0063.

The Armory - Mostly male gay club, but they just started doing this indie/goth night on Wensdays.  If all goes as planned, it will be a mixed crowd. Cute girl dj.  The Armory, 836 Juniper St. NE, Atlanta, 404-881-9280.

Echo Lounge and The Earl - if you're into punk and emo, these two live music venues in the Village, East Atlanta are for you.  Quite a few queer punks are regulars at both these places, especially if a queer act is playing. Look at websites for info.
