Aussies of Merrymont

I moved to the country in 1992. My dear friend and handler, Jon Woodring, insisted I get a "big" dog for protection. The breed he chose for me was the Australian Shepherd. My first, Alex, was supposed to be a show dog, but it just wasn't to be. I fell in love with the breed. I spent the next 15 years trying to find that "special" dog that I could show. I gave up on ever finding my show dog. That is until I discover After All Australian Shepherds,  Rick and Mel Gann and Janet White in 2006.

There are no varieties of Aussies

Those interested in the Australian Shepherd should be aware there are no size varieties of Australian Shepherds. There is no officially recognized Australian Shepherd variety such as "Standard," "Mini/Miniature, " or "Toy" Australian Shepherd.

Advertisers of Standard, Miniature, and Toy Varieties of Australian Shepherds are simply employing marketing terminologies to facilitate the sale of animals to the unsuspecting public that are, in reality, just dramatically smaller than the norm.

Responsible, reputable Australian Shepherd breeders who care about protecting this unique, American breed of stock dog do not promote the sale of Standard or Miniature or Toy Varieties of Australian Shepherds. This is a marketing ploy to sell faulty, undersized pups for increased prices.

If you're still interested in a Miniature or Toy Australian Shepherd, be advised that those dogs are not recognized by any reputable dog registry. Breeders of Miniatures and Toys who state or imply to potential buyers that their dogs are Australian Shepherds are misrepresenting them, and you should proceed with caution.
