Carlos Bravo was born 1835 in Cugnasco, Switzerland to Antony Bravo and Maria Spettrini. The 'Alster' 936 tons, arrived 12 Sept 1855, from Hamburg with Italian, English and German passengers including C Bravo and G Bravo, both aged 20. Carlo went first to the Alma Golf fields near Maryborough, then moved to Newbridge where he took up vine growing.
He married 3 June 1866 to Sofia Guscetti, daughter of Dr Severinus Guscetti and Guidita Besano, 21 March 1847 - 13 Aug 1919, born in Quinto, came to Australia on the 'Gipsy Bride' in 1854, lived in Newbridge, and died in Ballarat reference 10366. Sofia gave birth to 11 children between 1867 and 1889. Four reached adulthood, and when they both died in 1919 soon after their daughter Catherine died aged 27 of Spanish Flu, the three surviving sons had produced 16 grandchildren.
