George Frederick Grayling Christening: 02 Jul 1837 at St Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London, England son of Esther and Edward Leggett Grayling

A Ff2001 page by MICHELLE KERSHAW on the 12 April, 1999 tells that William Major Grayling 1781 - 1857 wed Ann Holton 1780 - 1848 came to Hobart Tasmania 1836 on the Amelia Thompson. Ann died in Melbourne and William returned to Kent where he died. George Frederick and Richard are identified as their sons

William Major Grayling and Ann Holton 1780 - 1848 #4457 aged 68 lived at St Clements, Sandwich, Kent, England then about 1810 moved to Deal, then Dover in 1820. The family voyaged to Tasmania then to Victoria, Ann's funeral is recorded at St James Church of England, Melbourne

Hi Elizabeth,
I'm trying to track down the ancestors of my mother's grandfather & great-uncle, the twins Richard and Robert Grayling Jones. They were born 12 January 1873. Richard married Cecilia Eldridge and their children included Cyril Charles, my maternal grandfather. See Eldridge family tree
I found through http://www.familysearch.org the records relating to twin brother Richard and Robert Grayling Jones. They were born in Lexton, Victoria 1873 to James Jones and Susanna Eliza Grayling, daughter of Richard & Jane Grayling nee Luddon.

Thomas 1843-1906, and Agnes Emma Henderson, nee Grayling 1852-1925

Jane’s parents Thomas and Agnes Emma Henderson were married at Doctors Creek, Victoria. Agnes was born at nearby Burnbank 9 February 1852, the daughter of Richard and Jane Grayling. The Graylings came from Kent to Tasmania in 1836. They moved to Victoria in 1838. Sometime around 1848 they settled at Burnbank.

Thomas and Agnes Henderson had eleven children. All with the exception of the youngest were born at Woodstock or Doctors Creek. Ethel May Henderson the baby of the family was born at Nhill.

According to Thomas and Agnes Henderson’s Family Bible Jane Luddon Henderson was born at Doctors Creek, near Lexton, on the 16 July 1883. In the bible someone has written in a contemporary hand the dates and places of birth of Jane’s parents, Thomas and Agnes and their eleven children. The bible was a gift to Agnes, from her mother Jane Grayling.

It wasn’t uncommon for the Hendersons to include family surnames in their children’s names. For example the Luddon in Jane Luddon Henderson comes from Jane’s grandmother Jane Grayling nee Luddon. She was born in Gibraltar in 1819 and came out to Launceston, Tasmania on her own in 1836. It would appear that Jane was named after her.
