Writer's Block
An essay by Invisigoth
There is a difference between normal writers block and fanfic writers
block.
Kitsunagari and I can tell you that. Writer's
block is simply an annoying thing, but fanfic writer's
block? It
doesn't go away. It follows you everywhere, especially when you're watching the
X-Files. You see these wonderful moments, and you're desperate to write some of your own.
So what do you do? You
park your butt in front of your compy, an idea in your mind, and an
episode guide to help you out with the details. And you sit
there. And sit there. And finally, one
sentence typed on the screen,
you start banging your head repeatedly on the keyboard (well, at
least I do), and give up. Despondent, you log on the net and surf Ephemeral, seeking inspiration
from reading some of the good stuff on there. Well, after about 45 minutes of reading one of Leia's
or someone's superb fics, you're ready to hang yourself with your mouse cord. So what do you
do? Watch more X-Files tapes, read more fic, try again. Finally, after you've churned out a dozen
pages of pure X-files goodness, you realize in horror that
what you've written is actually the plot of
"Syzygy" mixed with part of that fic by Leia. This is after you've uploaded it to Ephemeral,
of
course. Sometimes, like Kitsunagari, you can use
your block to help you. Then again, to do that
you need a twisted little mind like Kitsunagari. LOL And not all of us are that blessed! So
surf
around on this site! It may help, it may not,
it make make you nauseous and sicken you from ever
reading fanfic again. It may make you lapse into catatonic schizophrenia.
But whatever happens, it's probably my fault.
