Assignment 5

Melkor began the delving and building of a vast fortress, deep under the earth, beneath dark mountains where the beams of Illuin were cold and dim. That fortress was named Utumno, And though the Valar knew naught of it yet, nevertheless the evil of Melkor and the bligth of his hatred flowed out thence, and the Spring of Arda was marred.

The Pits of Angband is an open source game, using ascii graphics (plain text characters mapped to specific places on the screen), based on Moria, an roguelike adventure game set in the Mines of Moria in J.R.R Tolkein's Middle-Earth. Angband raises the power of both character, monsters, and final foe- instead of hunting the Balrog of Moria, Muar, the player attempts to destroy Morgoth, Lord of Darkness, who first corrupted Sauron. Angband has been continuely maintained since its creation in the early 90's.
