4/2/03: I suppose I should say something about Iraq:

It's daylight LOSING time in Baghdad. Time to set your clocks FORWARD a few centuries.

Now I can't take credit for that statement, but I found it ironic and appropriate. Saddam is on the way OUT folks, and then the world will see whether or not we are wlcome there. You've got people afraid they'll be shot in the head, or fed feet first into a tree shredder if they disagree with the current regime. Of COURSE they're not on TV saying "Me and my whole family welcome the Americans"

In other stupid news, several Nations (France, Germany, and China) are demanding that existing development deals with the Iraqi oil companies should be honored in post-war Iraq. Kind of Ironic that these three HAVE sweetheart deals and the US is completely shut out. You know what, froggy? You didn't do jack shit to help these people, so you shouldn't GET jack shit when it's over. This war has never been about oil, not from my standpoint, but it's just stupid to say that when all is said and done, those that didn't lift a finger should still be allowed a significant portion of the country's primary export. Screw that.

5/26/02: All the little girls hate me!

Obviously I was mentioned again, because another A*Teens fan wrote me.  I swear, I'm going to have to put up some more ORIGINAL content before my page devolves into nothing more than an A*Teens hatred shrine.

5/24/02: And the hits keep on coming.

I've managed to piss off another A*Teens fan without lifting a single additional finger.  It gives a certain satisfaction to know that something I wrote over two years ago still touches so many hearts.  "Barbara" mailed me to let me know how wrong I am, so I've added her comments and my rebuttal to the A*Teens "section".  This one gets it's own page here.

4/8/02 Another satisfied customer.

Whenever I receive an email with the subject line "You are an asshole" I know someone's been reading my site.  Usually it is about my deep-seated hatred of the vacuous insipid product of a pre-fab cover band known as the A*Teens.  This time, it was about something completely different.  A certain reader, we'll call her "Maria" because that's the name she gave seems to think I need a lobotomy because I think Andrea Yates is a psycho.  Uh... yeah.  I'm obviously mentally defective because I can't plainly see that it's her HUSBAND who's to blame.  Uh... yeah.  You can read my original rant, her rebuttal, and my response on the Andrea Yates hate page.

12/04/01 XMR v2.0 Final Release, site fixes, and a flash banner.

After much testing by the community, XMR appears ready for release.  But just to prove that I can't leave well enough alone, the final release has NEW FEATURES, tested only by myself.  WHY?  Because I'm a glutton for punishment, that's why.  "What new features", you ask?  How about the ability to email your reports with the plt file attached from within the program?  The program actually uses your existing MAPI-compliant email client (Such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc.) to compose the email, so it's one less thing to maintain.

I started a while back changing all my filenames to all lower case.  Geocities is case-sensitive for anything below the top of your site, and people tend to type in lower case by default.  This meant that most URLs I "recited" to people wouldn't work as typed.  Anyway, a lot of my links have been dead ever since, because FrontPage ISN'T case-sensitive, so I've had to spend a lot of time repairing links.  If you find a dead link, please tell me, but I think I got them all.

I decided to make a flash banner for myself.  It's rather silly really, but check it out anyway.  There's a plain-old JPEG banner too.

10/11/02: XMR v2.0 Release Candidate 2

A couple of bug fixes.  Open"ing a plt file now auto-generates a report.  Opening multiple files now works properly.  Application logging is now turned off by default.

10/5/01: XMR v2.0 Release Candidate 1

Version 2 of my X-Wing Mission Reporter is about ready for release.  What is hopefully the final version is now available from the files section of my YahooGroup.  For those who don't know, I have a YahooGroup set up which is suspiciously similar to my name, in fact it's the same (MelGrubb).  If you want to know about any new tools, utilities, games, or other things I release, then subscribe to it.  Whenever I release something, I'll let the group know, and you can join in on discussions as well.  It's pretty low-traffic so far, but if you ONLY want the official announcements from yours truly, you can always choose the "Only Special Announcements" message delivery option.

9/17/01: More idiocy from the religious right.

Two idiots who have the audacity to call themselves men of God recently spouted off that the US is reaping God's wrath because we have become a wicked nation, that we are being punished for allowing homosexuals and other non-Christian groups to exist here, that this tragedy is directly the fault of the pro-choice movement.

Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson are in the same category as Bin Laden as far as I'm concerned. To even imply that the USA somehow deserves this because we allow people to exist that do not feel the same as they do is just evil, plain and simple.

No good can come of people who feel it is their place to tell the rest of the world what God's will is. To elevate yourself to the level of God's personal interpreter is not only wrong, but conceited beyond belief, EASILY on the level of the deadly sin of Pride.

The Islamic have Bin Laden. The Catholics had Hitler. The Protestants had David Koresh. Everyone has some insane person who thinks they know what God wants, twists peaceful teachings to their agenda, and looks down on the rest of us for not having the same "insights" that are so plainly obvious to them. They are convinced that we are stupid because we cannot see the same truths they do. They view us as cattle, in need of their Holy and just leadership. They take it as their mission to "guide" us and show us the error of our ways, by force if necessary. They lead us into battle to defend that which THEY hold sacred. Unfortunately every now and then one of them comes along with enough charisma that we actually listen to them, believe them, follow them, and die in their place so that they can live to mislead another day.

True faith does not come from the television, or from a church. True faith comes from within, and it is true faith that leads people to true greatness. When the people of the world are true to themselves, and allow others to be as well, then we will finally have peace. When we can finally accept the fact that your neighbor doesn't HAVE to see things your way, then maybe we'll have finally learned to accept and value our differences. Then the things we DO have in common will gain the strength of the collective will behind them without the destructive interference of our bickering over other differences. The universally accepted idea of justice will gain the force and resolve of the myriad of souls that believe in it, whatever their other differences may be.

In the meantime, there are countries like Afghanistan whose people live in poverty, without so much as reasonable hospitals while their Taliban leaders hoard what wealth the country does have. Their leaders lie, and teach them that their terrible conditions are the fault of the rest of the world. They cultivate hatred for a people who would help them in an instant if only they were to ask, and they dupe their followers into believing that they should die in the service of their God by striking out against this "Great Satan".

The only way I know to finally defeat this kind of evil is to remove it like the cancer it is. Destroy the Taliban in its entirety, and then let it be known to the Afghan people that their country is now truly theirs, and that we stand by ready to give whatever assistance is needed for them to rebuild along with us. The lies that have been told about us can only be defeated by direct demonstration of our true nature.

6/11/01: New section.

There is now a "Projects" section.  This is kind of like the gallery, but for my programming and other similar projects.  Mostly it's my VB6 work, but there are some other types of development there as well.  Some of these were available through other sections of my site, but now there is a common directory of all my projects in one place.
