Not for profit status and history, the rocky
road to success.
The Foundation of Melchizedek originated
in Sacramento California in 1988, where
the
"not for profit" Spiritual
Order
was first placed on paper and sent
for approval
to the state of California. The founding
members had sought the assistance and
participation
of Rev. Martin C. Swanson, (a former
founding
member of another Order, the Holy Order
Of
MANS in 1967) under the agreement that
the
other members would be signed lawfully
as
the corporate officers of the physical
board
of directors, and that Rev. Swanson
hold
the title and function of Director
of the
Spiritual Order to tend to the teaching
and
practices of the life and welfare of
the
membership. The board of Directors
would
tend to the matters of the material
world,
as separate from the spiritual purposes
and
practices of the Spiritual Order, which
would
hold decision making authority over
the Board.
The name of the Order was revealed
and decided
upon unanimously after several months
of
meditation by those who wanted to become
the board members, prior to sending
in the
application to the state of California.
A
man named Harry Ray, and his wife were
to
become two of the registered parties
as the
paperwork was sent to the state for
acceptance.
Months went by without response from
the
state to the application before being
told
that the paperwork had been misplaced.
A
second attempt was made with a second
set
of papers, which once again after several
months of failure to receive notice
of lawful
establishment was once again found
to have
been misplaced by the state of California.
Rev. Swanson was in Denver Colorado
when
notified about the second failure of
the
state to keep track of and process
the application
and about a year had passed without
results.
It was the decision of the board members
to send the paperwork to Denver to
have the
Order established there. The paperwork
did
not arrive in time to be processed
due to
the fact that Rev. Swanson had for
business
reasons, necessity to move to Illinois.
The
board then sent the paperwork to Illinois,
and the Order was finally lawfully
established
in 1990 as a not for profit, corporation
and Spiritual Order dedicated to service
and teaching in the state of Illinois,
with
most of the board members still residing
in California. Unfortunately for reasons
that have never been fully understood,
some
time during that year Harry Ray and
family
had moved from Sacramento without leaving
a forwarding address or phone number,
and
have never been heard from since. The
Order
had relocated to Northbrook after a
large
house had been leased to become the
national
headquarters of the FOM, and new board
members
from Illinois signed up to fill positions
on the Board in Illinois in 1991. Those
who
could have moved in to support the
house
and Order and enter into training toward
the priesthood failed to move in, and
Rev.
Swanson was forced to pay the rent
and utilities
for the property working as a carpenter.
No one could be found to sign up as
members
of the Board the next year and the
lawful
status was placed on hold. In 1999
the Order
became a proprietorship till it moved
to
Milwaukee.
Several years passed and due to dire
financial
circumstance caused the loss of the
Order,
and central headquarters in Illinois,
causing
a move to Milwaukee Wisconsin in 2000.
It
is presently registered as a "Doing
Business As" the Foundation Of
Melchizedek
corporation, while once again awaiting
the
completion of paperwork for Not for
Profit
status in Wisconsin.
The Foundation became lawfully established
in the State of Wisconsin as a Not-For-Profit
Corporation on 26th July 2001. In January
of 2002 the Foundation relocated to
California
and the Wisconsin status lapsed as
a consequence.
2002-2003 saw a number of changes in
personal
circumstance and as such the Foundation's
legal status is once more "on hold".
It is our intention to complete the
lawful
establishment of the Not for Profit
Organization
and be able to receive tithes from
supporters
and members within the next few months,
but
also to retain a profit making Order.
We
believe that a laborer is worthy of
his hire,
as we seek to become useful to the
present
needs of the world in service to God
and
humanity. We also accept that prosperity
is natural and welcome all who would
assist
us in our mutual success with appreciation
for support of our efforts, one to
another.
