'The Hindu' Reporting Semi-truths and in-correct information
The English language news paper published from Chennai namely The
Hindu does it again. One of the Template of the news paper declared on its 125th
anniversary is "truth telling".This time in a confused report it
fudges truth , semi-truths and in-correct information all in one.
It gives a mis -leading heading about the Pakistan rights panel's demand on
probing the disappearance of an IAF pilot. It makes it appear that the demand is
on GOI. It also suggests that 95 persons are missing from that flight . To cap
it all, in its by now known fervor to create an Equal--Equal situation in every
thing connected with India and Pakistan, the newspaper proclaims the claim that
Pakistanis and Indians suffer in such situations. How come Pakistanis's suffer
in a situation of an Indian Pilot being considered missing and in Pakistan
prison is a mystery known only to the rights coordinator of Pakistan and
the English language news paper published from Chennai namely "The
Hindu".
But such is the love or fear of this paper about the Pakistan Government and its
various organs. but Truth Telling suffers in the process.
Will the paper clarify if the demand for probe about missing Squadron Leader
Sambandham is on the GOI or on the GOP and if there were 95 passengers in that
air force flight?

Probe disappearance of IAF pilot: Pakistan rights panel
By K.T. Sangameswaran
CHENNAI SEPT. 4. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has requested
authorities in the country to thoroughly investigate the disappearance of an
Indian Air Force flight sergeant after his plane crashed near the border 35
years ago.
Efforts will also be made to find out whether a squadron leader, co-pilot aboard
the flight, is in Pakistan's custody, the HRCP has said in response to a letter
from S. Sambandham, member, Tamil Nadu Human Rights Commission.
The TNHRC took cognisance of a complaint filed by Vijayalakshmi of Tiruvanmiyur
here that the plane AN-12-BL534, which her husband, Flt.Sgt. Somasundaram, was
flying back from Leh to Chandigarh on February 7, 1968 crashed over the Rohtang
Pass. Along with her complaint, she enclosed copies of press reports that Sq.Ldr.
Malhotra, who was also aboard, was reported to be in a Pakistan prison.
Confident that her husband was alive, she urged the TNHRC to take steps for
locating him.
Mr. Sambandham wrote to the HRCP saying if Sq.Ldr. Malhota was alive, the fate
of nearly 95 other occupants of the flight should also be the same. If Sq.Ldr.
Malhotra was alive, he would be able to say what happened to his colleague.
Similar letters were addressed to the Defence and External Affairs Ministries.
As the Union Government did not respond yet, reminders were being sent to both
the ministries, asking them to submit an action taken report by September 23.
In his reply, the HRCP coordinator, Brig. Rao Abid Hamid, said the Pakistani
authorities always maintained they did not have any Indian prisoner of war in
their custody. The issue was dealt with several times at the highest level and
was also discussed at the Agra Summit. Later, the Pakistan President ordered a
fresh probe, but according to the authorities, no such person was found.
"Indeed it is an excruciating situation for Mrs. Somasundaram and other
afflicted families, who have lost their dear ones but continue to hope that they
are alive and will return one day".
As part of the country's Vulnerable People's Programme, the HRCP tried to
provide humanitarian help. Over the years, the commission was able to provide
some help as in the case of Roop Lal, an alleged Indian spy, who was to be
hanged in 1998. At the last minute, the commission managed to get his sentence
commuted.
"Similarly, a number of Indians and Pakistanis have been helped in
returning to their countries. In release and repatriation of other prisoners and
fishermen, we have done useful work. However, at the end of the day, these
efforts are insignificant because of the huge suffering and injustice which
people of India and Pakistan suffer", said the coordinator.
The TNHRC has also asked for Mrs. Somasundaram's views on the HRCP reply.
Is it Equal--Equal argument -- the 'The Hindu' Newspaper wants to propagate?
Terrorists are comparable to " militants" of any political hue within India ??
The English language news paper The Hindu published from Chennai does it
again and again. In its coverage of Terrorists and Insurgent activity sponsored
by Pakistan--it continues to mention about " militants" fighting the
army. This is just to create a false impression that these terrorists are
comparable to " militants" of any political hue within India --like
militants from Sangh parivar or BSP or RLD or AIADMK or DMK etc Is it
Equal--Equal arguement--the paper wants to propagate?
The news paper which has " truth telling" as one of the templates of
its 125th year- declaration refuses to call a spade as spade namely "
terrorists" as terrorists. Why this news paper is so shy? Is it afraid that
Pakistan inspired terrorists might attack the office of the paper? or is it
worried that its truth telling may hurt the Government of Pakistan? or is the
news paper afraid that it may hurt the cause of international terrorism?
When our soldiers and police and civilians are butchered by Terrorists calling
them militants is a greatest dis-service to the society at large. The same is
picked up by international news agencies and published. Hence the act of
terrorism in USA is perpetrated by Terrorists and in India it is done by
militants. Why? According to Webster's Dictionary Militant----aggresive,serving
as a soldier-military member Terrorist--One who rules by terror--organized
ruthlessness- [ violent dread]
Let the paper decide in the name of " truth telling' how to categorize the
terrorist. Will it? Where is the problem? The paper which has more than hundred
years of history should try to live up to some courage and " truth
telling"

Army takes command of Kathua operation
By Luv Puri
Kathua Sept. 4. For the third consecutive day today, the security forces and
militants are battling it out in the Ghati forests of Kathua district with the
Army taking over the entire command and launching an assault on the holed-up
militants. The exchange of fire subsided during the day but when the army
started zeroing in on the targets later in the afternoon, the militants fired
back.
