Current Projects

The MeDiA Activism Club is planning so many projects for this year-- some of which are listed below. We are excited to get these projects started, to let more people know why the media is so important! Our projects will seek to inform people of our opinions, perspectives and causes.

Major projects in-the-works

-Marc Maron and Mark Riley of Air America Radio's Morning Sedition are coming to speak to us about democracy and the media on Tuesday, November 30 in Room 336! Check out http://www.airamericaradio.com/shows/morningsedition/ and listen to Morning Sedition on AM 1190 from 6-9am M-F.

-Guerrilla Theater Ideas: (italicized ideas were actually done...)
1. Bubbles in the hallways
2. Republicans play beachball with the world (Click for pictures!)

3. Hula hoops, weird music
4. Camp out
5. House of cards, house of giant cards, house of other weird stuff, ie: duct tape.
6. Catepillars in the hallways!!!
7. 101 dalmatian teenagers running across campus.
8. Random holidays
9. Strollers with people in them
10. Bubbles all over walk way/ balloons
11. Meditation in the hallways, perhaps with bubbles
12. Nudity (?)
13. Colored post-its on lockers with, perhaps other languages on them
---or--- "meet me at this room at this time" and have a party and give free lemonade.
---or--- "go to this room" then "go to this room"-- like a treasure hunt!
14. Lession outside in courtyard and gregorian chant
15. Stuffed animals in seats
16. Gregorian chant arbitrarily in the hallway-- one person's doing it, and others fall into line
17. Conga lines (with music) in the stairwells.

Our yahoo webgroup-- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mediaactivismclub/ is now serving as our official informer of Guerrilla Theater events. Also check this page if you are looking to get involved in the projects for info like dates and times.

- Jeff Stark came to speak to our club on Monday, October 18, on behalf of the guerrilla theater group Madagascar Institute. Subscribe to his events list, www.nonsensenyc.com, or check out www.madagascarinstitute.com.

-Election day PSAs for screening in history classrooms-- now just issue based PSAs. Abortion PSA, still in the works.

-RANTS 2004 exploded! We're opening up the "oh-so-theraputic" ranting on camera to the whole school. Let us know if you want to be instrumental in this project!

-Even though the great chalk experiment proposal was rejected, we are still working hard to get your perspectives out there. We're thinking of posting signs around school where kids can just write their random feelings. Email us if you like this idea.

-Sara was on npr-- check out what she had to say about Look Look Magazine...
