| You are about to enter a "place" devoted entirely to the Collie. If you have ever heard of Albert Payson Terhune and his wonderful stories of his Collies, you will be captivated by what I am about to tell you. As a child I read all the books he had written, and his stories were so impressionable, that I told myself, one day I would own these magnificient animals and share them with the world, just as he had shared his stories pertaining to the intelligence, loyalty, devotion, and dedication of this breed. His stories were told in such a riviting manner that one could only imagine being in the center of each tale, caught up into the adventures with the likes of his own Collies, Lad, Bruce, Treve, Wolf, etc. In his books he always referred to his home as the "place" and everyone knew it was the home of Sunnybank. So I grew up, married and started my family, I also bought my first Collie, a tri-bitch we called Fancee and started my life over. I only had three dogs to begin with, and in time when we retired we searched and searched for a place that would in some ways resmble Sunnybank, and one crisp March day in 1990 we discovered the piece of land we were looking for. We are nestled in the center of twenty acres with gigantic over two hundred year old Oaks and surrounded by statuesque Pines that look like sentinals to keep us safe. We do not have an "icy-blue" lake , but rather a stream that has Trout and Salmon running in the fall and spring. To this place we came, and here I have grown to having my breeding program at long last complete. My Collies are born next to my bed , and are surrounded by my grandchildren from birth until they leave and are selectively bred for the temperment, health and lastly the beauty.which you will see by looking at all my wonderful babies within these pages. When you leave here, tell yourself that although it is not the real home of the "place" it is my place and I call it my very own Sunnybank. Barbara J Naughton |
