Welcome to the Official Maryland Junior Classical (MDJCL) web site! The MDJCL is a chapter of the National Junior Classical League, the largest classical organization in the world. The JCL's 52,000+ members are dedicated to promoting the study of Latin as well as ancient Greek and Roman history and mythology. We, the MDJCL, are an active and growing group of middle and high school's from across the state of Maryland.

"The purpose of this organization shall be to promote a more thorough knowledge of classical life, history, and literature; to impart a better understanding of the practical and cultural value of the classics; and to interest other students in the classical languages, literature, government, and laws."

Saturnalia Cancelled. Unfortunately, we had to cancel Saturnalia this year. However, State Convention will go on as usual this spring.!

Congratulations Michelle! Our officer of many years, Michelle Robinson, has been elected Parliamentarian of the NJCL. Because of this, she must give up this year's MDJCL position of president. Derek is now be MDJCL president for the 2001-2002 term. See all the new officers here.

New NJCL photography contest! The NJCL has created a new monthly photography contest. Each month the best photograph depicting the annual slogan (Magnos homines virtute metimur, non fortuna) will be published in Torch: US and the winner will also receive $25.
