An Introduction to the Site
Several months ago, my brother and I decided to invest in a used computer to explore the wonderful world of Internet. Having a great time doing this part time, I had now the opportunity to make it full time.
In my web navigation, I've discovered sites that permit free web housing to creators. Wanting to tell the world something, I've gave a go, then I tried to find something to talk about. Since 1999's is the last year before the start of the third Millenium, I've been always crazed about the boys on the squared circle, brawling and fighting before thousands of people, in a spectacular way. It's in this spirit that I have started a project to celebrate the arrival of the so mythical Year 2000...
As we know, whatever the time, people have always been fascinated in seeing two guys fighting for honor and glory. For a sport which had its roots way over 4000 years, I can assume today that Professionnal Wrestling is one of the most popular spectator sports in the world. At a certain point, it faded, but there was always something that revived the spirit, equivalent to a near beaten fighter who has a second wind after a series of hard blows by an opponent...
Right now, American and Japanese Wrestlers rule the sport with their mega-federations. However, here in Canada, we have a strong tradition of wrestling. From all over this big country, many Federations promoted Pro Wrestling, and created top quality athletes in which never deceived the paying fan who wants action for his money.
In Montréal, people took the way to pro wrestling up to the ambulant fairs that roamed around Québec. Between rides, side-shows, snack-bars, acrobats and animals, there was always a show in which a strong guy challenged the audience to take a beating at himself. Many did, mostly for the hefty reward in case of a win, but at 99% of the time, the challenger lost, to the promoter's joy of keeping the reward for a longer time. However, when some tough guy beated the champ, the promoter invited him to join the bandwagon and fight his champ in every city they set camp. Thus started the great history of pro Wrestling in Québec.
Coming back to the purpose of this web site, I was surprised that lots of wrestling web sites talked about the existing Federations and few about the glorious past of pro wrestling (among them SOLIES VINTAGE WRESTLING, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO ?, PRO WRESTLING MUSEUM, THE GREAT HISA'S PURORESU DOJO, CANOE'S CANADIAN WRESTLING PAGE OF FAME, SLOBBERKNOCKER CENTRAL, CANADIAN WRESTLING HALL OF FAME, and my alter ego Claude Leduc's LES ÉTOILES DE LA LUTTE...)
Especially in Québec, we produced quite a lot of these gladiators in which became champions of international federations. In the likes of Yvon Robert, Maurice Vachon, Johnny Rougeau, Jos Leduc, Rick Martel, Dino Bravo, Jacques Rougeau Jr. and so on. So in that case, why not create a site in honor of the Québec Legendary Superstars of Pro Wrestling. (Now Recalled by my new company, DeUxKonE: Quebec Wrestling Legends)
Thanks to my alter ego, Claude, who is producing this vintage page of history for all wrestling fans in the world, this site will tell the story of those who made history in the annals of pro wrestling all over Québec. I will be not only talking of Québec-born athletes, but I will say a word for all France-born athletes who practiced the sport here (in which they called over there "catch"), mostly André the Giant, who started his road to fame in Montréal, and Edouard Carpentier, a once spectacular wrestler who still teaches wrestling today and keep in shape as he ever was... Also, this site will talk about the small history of wrestling in Québec as well as the promoters of yesterday and today and a spotlight of some of our future hopes who might one day, win another major belt in a squared circle somewhere in the world...
So, let's ring the bell, and enjoy this piece of wrestling history...
