About US

McRAE-Helena Fire & Rescue proudly protects 11,692 people living in an area of 444.1 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations and protect a primarily rural area. If needed, we receive   mutual aid from Telfair State Prison Fire Department and other surrounding departments.

Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. McRAE and Helena Fire Departments are controlled by their respective governments. Both departments share the same volunteer firefighters. McRAE has 3 full time and 4 part time firefighters who volunteer for Helena and Telfair County when off duty. Helena has its own station and fire trucks, but is operated by the same personnel and from the McRAE station.

The McRAE-Helena Fire & Rescue consists of firefighters who are members of all three departments and who proudly risk their lives to protect the citizens of McRAE, Helena, and Telfair County. We respond to all city and most county calls. McRAE and Helena both have an ISO rating of 5, while Telfair county has a rating of 9 except a 5 mile radius around Horse Creek Volunteer Fire Department, which has a rating of 8.

Our members are a great asset to McRAE, Helena, and Telfair County.  If you live in the area and are interested in joining  please call the number above.
