Homework Help Mon-Thurs

Leos have the opportunity to volunteer at the Black Mountain Middle School "Raider Power Hour" to help young students with their homework right after school. This event is ongoing throughout the year and is held in room 405 between 2:30 and 3:30.
Holiday Caroling
Dec. 21

Leos will be caroling at the Arbors residence. This is an annual activity that promises to bring you in the holiday spirit! Chair: Vishwa
Toiletries Ends Jan. 10th Leos: Turn in toiletries (vacations/hotels) for those in need! Chair: Usha
Adopt-a-Rainforest continuous Our club will be adopting a portion of the rainforest by donations. Chair: Jennifer Fu
Rose Parade Floats December Leos Stacy and Sonya went up to Pasadena, CA in December to work on the Lions float for the 2003 Rose Parade.

The 26th annual Mt. Carmel Tournament of Champions is promised to be one of the best community events of the year! Our club will help out the P.Q. Lions with selling concessions to over 30 bands taking part in this prestigious tournament.

Informative night for Leo parents about the upcoming year. Officers and Lions members will be giving information about the upcoming year. Meeting is in room G-1.
Beach Party! Sept. 21
(3-6pm)
Join in the fun at this mandatory (yes mandatory) party! Come meet your fellow LEO club members in this introductory social event at Torrey Pines Beach. We will be playing games, hanging out, and having some food. Upper classmen, bring food and snacks. Underclassmen bring drinks and cups. We will be meeting at the north entrance (the lagoon entrance) to Torrey Pines Beach.

"Want to make a difference in your local community? Join Volunteer 8, a partnership between Volunteer San Diego and Local 8, to plant flowers, clear debris, and clean up Canyonside Recreation Center, located on Black Mountain Road. Your efforts to beautify the Center will allow many more individuals, families, sports teams and youth groups to visit the Center and enjoy its programs all year round. Individuals and families are needed to help us pull weeds, plant ground cover and shrubs around the tennis courts, pick up debris around the baseball and softball fields and beautify a neighborhood Center. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt to wear proudly knowing that they are making volunteering a way of life!"

 Fourth of July Fireworks @ MC July 3

Leos will volunteer by selling food and other items at the annual Mt. Carmel / P.Q. Fireworks Event and Show at MCHS. Show up at Mt. Carmel any time between 5:30 and 10pm and stay for as long as you want. Don't miss out at our first event of the new year!

June 4th Our end-of-the-year gathering will be Tuesday, June 4 at Georgio's Italian Restaurant by Stater Brothers. We will be presenting awards and closing up the year with a fun night. We hope that you can make it!
Special Olympics June 1st
(10-4pm)
Our club, along with other LEO and Lions clubs, will be helping out at the San Diego Special Olympics, a sporting competition for people with developmental disabilities, at the SDSU Stadium.
Fiesta De Los Peñasquitos

This is an annual street faire in our community, Rancho Peñasquitos. Our club helps out at the P.Q. Lions booth along with the San Diego Police Department in providing free photos and fingerprints for children. Required training for fingerprinting will be on May 2 @ 6 pm at the PQ Police Station.
Spring Club Faire March 25-29

Our club sold vegetable lumpia for $.75 each and 2 for $1. Thanks to Cassie and Vishwa!
Sports Recognition Continuous Our club is sending supportive letters and cards to Mt. Carmel H.S. J.V. and Varsity sport teams wishing them good luck at their upcoming games. Chair: Corey Hansen

2nd Annual Canned Food Scavenger Hunt  March 9, 2002
(8a.m.-12p.m.)
This event involves teams of LEOS scurrying around the PQ neighborhood in search for canned food that people want to donate to the San Diego Food Bank. This event was a great success last year! Read the San Diego Union Tribune article featuring last year's scavenger hunt here

Lions Speakers Contest Sign up by 12/20/01

Would you like to win up to $20,750 in scholarship money? Mt. Carmel has the opportunity for Leos and Speech and Debate members to participate in the annual Lions Speaker Contest. This year's topic is: 'energy - what's the future?' Come to the 1st round at the P.Q. Library to support our competing Leos: Cassie Brewer, Corey Hansen, and Stacy Magdaluyo

Adopt-a-Family Ends Thursday, Dec. 20 Our club has "adopted" a needy family during the holiday season. The family members are a father (James, disabled), a mother (Carmen), and a 9- year old boy (William). Please donate new gifts to room K6 by Thursday (wrapped w/ family member name) and help out this family by making their season brighter!      
Christmas Trees 12/15/01 (9am-5pm) Our club will volunteer at a Poway Christmas Tree Farm by helping families pick out their tree and cut it down. Leos may work at different shifts (morP is the same day). Co-Chairs: James Llamas, Cassie Brewer   
Secret Santa Pick: 12/11; Exchange: 12/18 Leo members pick a name and get a gift ($10) for a fellow Leo. On Dec. 18, we will exchange gifts and your Secret Santa will be revealed! Thanks to James Llamas for organizing this fun holiday event!

Tree Planting Ceremony 12/01/01 (10-10:30am) The P.Q. Lions invited our club members to attend a Tree Planting Ceremony at Hilltop Community Park to honor a local Poway resident who perished in the Sept. 11 tragedy.
Bake Sale 11/8/01 (During Snack) Our club will be hosting a bake sale fundraiser at snack.

Oct. 22-26 (During Lunch) Annual Mt. Carmel event, in which campus clubs set up booths in the quad during lunch to publicize and raise money for their club. We sold snow cones for $1 and Stephen Nolan was our  Leo Mascot!! We raised about $190! Chair: James Llamas

September 11th Fund

Sept - Oct Our club has raised $730 in two weeks, which will be donated to the September 11th Fund! Thank you to Jennifer Fu, Sharmeen Browarek, and Danielle Gossman for chairing such a successful act of compassion! On October 5, 2001, our local high school paper, the "Mt. Carmel Sun",  featured how numerous clubs on campus raised money and relief aid for the New York attack victims, including the LEO club effort. Also, the Corridor News had the story in its November 15, 2001 issue.

Padres Game 9/4/01 (5:00-?) The Mt. Carmel Leo Club was given 21 free tickets to the Padres baseball game at 7:05 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals. There was a Leo tailgate party with free hot dogs, chips, and soda at 5:00 pm.
