This page provides information about Y chromosome DNA
genealogy analyses. These are being undertaken in order to investigate the
origins of the surnames historically associated with the Dal Riadic Scots
migration from Northern Ireland to Scotland during the period ~400AD to 1000AD.
To date these analyses have concentrated on defining haplotypes and subclades
of R1b haplogroup using STR clustering and more recently R haplogroup SNP
testing. For links to information about Y chromosome DNA basics the reader is
referred to Y haplogroup
resources. For other R1b resources see Charles Kerchners DNA-Anthrogenealogy
and R1b haplogroup project.
