Thursday 04-10-03

Again, I'm so sorry for not having updated this as frequently as I used to (I think I see this sentence in EVERY Accutane Journal).  =)   I don't know if the reason is because there's just not much to say anymore, or because the excitement and the novelty wears off after 6 weeks with only minimal improvement.  And by improvement, I mean improvement from the initial breakout - I think it still looks worse than it did when I initially started.

Well, just a minute - I take some of that back.  I guess I'm just a little bitter because my skin's not perfect yet and I'm desperately ready for it to be.  It does look worse than when I started, but I would say that I've seen a 50% improvement since the initial breakout.  I don't know if that's saying much, but - (and, jesus, how many times have I said this?!) I think I've reached a turning point by the end of this week.

Cyst count:  3 on right cheek, 1 on left cheek that should probably count as 2 because it's so big and painful.  Of course, there are several large pimples, a couple of pustules, some plugs, and a trillion and four scars.

I'm having all of the same side effects that I've mentioned before.  My nose  bled a lot this week (only when "provoked," though).  And yes, it HAS to be provoked.  I'd much rather have a minute of light bleeding than worry about boulder-sized boogers falling out of my nose in public.  Not to mention that it's horribly uncomfortable to feel them in there.

In addition, I have skin that is drier than I've ever imagined - mostly just on my arms.  I think "scaly" best describes it.  And it's probably my fault - I occasionally either forget or don't have time to moisturize.

The only real new development is pain in my Achilles tendons (see side effect log OR Achilles Tendonitis).  For the past week, I've noticed that when I stand up in the morning it hurts to walk.  It get better as I move around, but will return if I sit down for too long and then walk again.   I'm not sure if it's related to Accutane, but it worries me a little anyway.  I'd hate to be taken off of the med for something as silly as the degeneration of my connective tissue (joking!!).

I've added new pictures!  Check them out and then SIGN MY GUEST BOOK!  You can access it by clicking on HOME to the left and scrolling down to the bottom of the screen.
