SINGER WAITS FOR CALL
Long ago, when filming for "All That Glitters" first began, there were rumors that Tatiana Echevarria, a 10 year old girl from Hawaii would be cast as the "Little Billie" for Mariah's debut movie. This is all pretty old news but I came accross an article which reveals the last name of Mariah's character, Billie. And the last name is: James. Billie James. Here is the full article:

Honolulu resident Tatiana Echevarria, 10, is waiting to hear whether she wins a role in a Columbia movie starring Mariah Carey. Echevarria, who auditioned Thursday at Pacific Focus in Honolulu, was a winner on "From Hawaii: Destination Stardom" where she was billed as "Little Mariah Carey" because of her vocal talent. Echevarria expects to find out this week if she wins this round of auditions for "All That Glitters," produced by Lawrence Mark and directed by Vondie Curtis Hall. Filming will begin in New York City July 3 and has a Christmas 2001 release date.

Echevarria would play the main character, Billie James, as a young girl; Carey plays the adult James.

April Masini, who arranged for Echevarria's audition, had called the head of casting at Columbia, then sent Echevarria's "Destination" footage. "I was stunned and thrilled when I received April's call," said Kim Au, Echevarria's mother. "Tatiana is excited, too ... but ... doesn't want to set herself up for disappointment in case she doesn't get the role. ... She'll believe it when she signs a contract."

MARIAH CAREY HELPS GENERATE $300,000 FOR ICAO BUILDING
"MCWNO" EXCLUSIVE - YOU SEE IT HERE FIRST -

The ICAO building served as Hollywood North for two days this fall. In September, the atrium and Council chamber were the locations for a one-day shoot for the feature film All That Glitters. The movie stars pop artist Mariah Carey.
In October, the television series Nikita, with star Peta Wilson, shot scenes for an upcoming episode – again using the atrium and Council chamber as locations.
Together, the two shoots brought in just over $20,000 in rental income, with virtually no disruption to building activities.
In fact, the ICAO building generates well in excess of $300,000 annually from permanent tenant rent and operating cost recoveries, short-term facility rentals, and from savings of external space charges through on-site PD and staff training courses and examination marking.

CELEBRITY NAILS
Take a peek inside Sarah Jessica Parker's purse. Catch a glimpse at Mariah Carey's nails in any music video. Look at Cameron Diaz's digits on the cover of Harper's Bazaar. Where the stars are, you'll find the work of Deborah Lippman, a celebrity manicurist and developer of her own line of totally glamorous nail polish. She gave Complete Woman the scoop on how to score a perfect 10.

Mariah Carey matches her nail polish to her clothes. When Mariah wore a white dress to the 1999 Oscars, Lippman created a color - a silvery beige called Satin Doll.

LIVE SOUND SHOWCASE
When Mariah Carey elected to put her Rainbow tour together at short notice, it was Trip Khalaf and Michael McKnight who were responsible for recreating her heavily-layered studio sound on the road. McKnight, who is Carey's Musical Director for the tour explained:

'We transferred a lot of material from the original 48-track tapes to ADAT, and then directly into Digital Performer 2.1. Even though the band play as much as they can live on stage, there are so many background parts that we can't recreate them all with just four backing vocalists,' he added. 'These days the audience wants to hear MTV: the signature parts are really important.' McKnight explained that all the vocal, instrumental, and percussion parts are kept separate to allow for last-minute key changes on the road.

On stage, McKnight prefers the Mark of the Unicorn Digital Performer system to Pro Tools (which is his preferred system in the studio), pointing out that its features are better suited to live work, with so many songs and versions required almost instantly. The sequencer is also used to generate timecode for synchronising the numerous video clips, and for firing MIDI program changes at the FOH mix position, where engineer Trip Khalaf uses a Yamaha 02R console for effects and playback.

'There are about 64 FOH program changes during the show: most of these are for the start of each song or video insert, as you'd hear the change if it was done in the middle of a number,' he explained. Khalaf uses Opcode System's MAX software to organise cues and controls for the Yamaha, his main console (a Midas XL4), and the comparatively spartan out-board racks. Although Khalaf is wary of the excessive use of computers on any live show, he regrets not having any form of dynamic automation for this type of high-precision dance music; 'real-time automation would be fabulous, but no-one does it. Well, not for under a trillion dollars!' he complained.

The FOH speaker system, comprising 72 Clair Brothers' S4 cabinets, is very different from the smaller I4 system that Khalaf had been using before the Carey tour. 'The I4s weren't available at such short notice, but the S4 is the big, muscular kind of rig that works really well for this kind of show,' he explained. 'The I4 is more of a high-fidelity system that pleases the accountants, as it takes up about half the truck space!' The system is driven via the company's own analogue processors, with TC Electronics TC1128 programmable graphics inserted across the six separate feeds. Khalaf's latest acquisition is a handy remote-control unit for the equaliser system, based on a 3Com Palm III palmtop computer and designed by Handi Systems Inc of Morrisville, PA. While the unit requires a two-wire connection for the moment, Khalaf is looking forward to the wireless version that will allow him to wander freely around any auditorium with his palmtop, EQ'ing the different sections of the FOH system. Pride of place in his out-board rack is a Funk Logic Algorythmic Prosecutor, with a very plausible set of controls designed to fool the unwary. The fact that one of the controls is labelled an Imaginator, allowing infinite control between 'Hmmm' and 'Ah Hah!', added to Khalaf's assertion that the unit has infinite S/N ratio, should give the game away.

Khalaf is in the process of comparing a range of different compressors and their effect on Carey's powerful voice. He is currently auditioning a Langevin electro-optical design alongside the more common DBX 160 and Summit DCL200. The Langevin uses all-discrete Class-A technology coupled to a high-speed LED/LDR circuit that gives the limiter its characteristically quick attack time. As far as Khalaf is concerned, the jury is still out on the compressor/limiter choice.

At the monitor position, Glen Collett handles all 22 of the required stage mixes on a Yamaha PM4000M. 'Even with this many sends, the band are still only getting mono feeds,' he explained. Although the monitor rig had been based on Carey's previous tour design, the switch to a Garwood in-ear monitoring system involved a major re-think. However, Clair Brothers' system engineers came up with a sophisticated solution, involving a series of switchers that allow each IEM transmitter to receive any one of the ten stereo mixes in the event of any RF difficulties. 'If there's a really serious problem, we can just divert a radio feed into one of the hardwired channels,' pointed out Collett, adding that buffer amps had been incorporated into the design to match levels between the two systems. On the conventional side, eight 12AM wedges and four R4 fills per side completed the on-stage line-up.

The biggest audio challenge on Mariah Carey's Rainbow tour has been one of continuity, as Trip Khalaf explained: 'She is touring songs from the mid-Eighties right up to the current album, with almost no rehearsal or production time,' he pointed out. 'Somehow we have to make the songs sound good together and give them a ‘live' feel. Luckily, she has an incredible voice - this girl can really sing. Added to which, a huge amount of the material is played by real musicians. This is definitely not an ADAT show.'

TYCOON OF TEEN
He may have been, and continue to be, the Fool on the Hill. But let's get one thing clear: As crazy as Phil Spector is, he knew how to produce emazing music.

He is famous for his "Wall of Sound," whereby he added kettle drums and horns and glockenspiels and vocal chorales to rock & roll without taking away a bit of its teen rebelliousness and angst.

His seminal concoction is "Be My Baby," recorded by the Ronettes. He layered 27 tracks of music on tape before putting Veronica Bennett, known to you perhaps as Ronnie Spector, in front of the mike for one unforgettable take.

He later married Ronnie and tried to hide her away in the mansion on the hill before she escaped Mariah Carey-style.

While he's long been in hiding, he isn't dead and even asked for another go-round in a recent issue of Vanity Fair.

BRAZIAN FASHION DESIGNERS GO NORTH
In a world where glamour counts, Brazil's fashion designers have it made: Top model Gisele Bundchen is a worldwide style icon and caipirinha is THE drink from L.A. to Ljubljana. Brazil hasn't been this hot since Carmen Miranda. For a while, though, there was a problem for clothing makers who wanted to capture lucrative markets to the north: Brazil's seasons are upside-down. When it's ``Fall/Winter'' in London, Paris and Milan, they're gearing up for summer in Sao Paulo. Brazil's clothing industry is determined not to let geography get in the way. Rebounding from a long slump, designers have aligned the Brazilian fashion calendar with the north, and now are selling their sensual blouses and skimpy bikinis in classy stores from Barneys New York to Brown's of London.

Fashion bosses expect exports to nearly quadruple to $4.3 billion these next four years as factories modernize to meet growing global demand. ``In this world of globalization, if we want to turn Sao Paulo into a fashion capital of the world, we have to adopt the calendar of the Northern Hemisphere,'' said Cristine Caterina, spokeswoman for Sao Paulo Fashion Week, Brazil's top fashion show, held twice a year. ``We can't expect Paris to follow Brazilian seasons; we have to follow European ones.''

That means Brazilian designers have shortened their creative cycle, working overtime to prepare collections much more quickly than their European or North American counterparts. The 2001 Fall/Winter collections that up-and-coming stylists such as Fause Haten or Alexandre Herchcovitch show in Sao Paulo this January and then in London and Paris have to be in stores in Brazil by May. The deadline for U.S. and European stores is October. The fact that the final result comes out first in Brazil makes Sao Paulo seem as cutting edge as London or New York. It wasn't always that way.

Amir Slama, designer and chief executive of Rosa Cha, a cult Sao Paulo bikini manufacturer, recalls that when he started out in 1993, he had to beg international suppliers to sell him the latest materials before they were shipped to European and American markets. ``For years, Brazil had a fashion industry that was based on copies. We would follow trends, not make them,'' recalls the 36-year-old former teacher and bartender. Three years ago, Jacqueline Druz, a Los Angeles-based Brazilian, saw Rosa Cha's collection in Sao Paulo and left with a bag of samples to hawk around the United States.

Soon Rosa Cha was on the cover of Cosmopolitan, on sale in New York's hippest stores such as Barneys and Language and in the closets of Mariah Carey, Chelsea Clinton and Sophia Loren.

Now, Slama dictates global trends with his funky beachwear that uses strong colors, skimpy lines and - this year - images of singer Carmen Miranda. Exports have jumped from just 600 swimsuits in 1995 to 30,000 suits this year at more than 120 outlets worldwide.

Out-of-synch seasons are also a challenge for importers. In Sao Paulo's classy Jardins neighborhood, Kika Rivetti and Tania Wagner pore over Brazilian Vogue, studying an advertisement for Thierry Mugler, one of the brands they sell in their store, Eclat. The ad shows a dress from Mugler's winter collection just out. But the dress Eclat chose for the ad is the least wintry of the collection, because here summer is starting. ``What can we do?'' asks Rivetti. ``We had to choose the most summery image from the winter collection, rather than a picture from the summer collection that has been out for six months: we can't be seen to be advertising old clothes.'' The solution was to launch Eclat Casual, its own line, designed and made in Brazil: no sleeves, no lining, very tropical.

Responding to increased demand, Brazil's textile industry is modernizing, investing $7 billion in new machinery over the last eight years and another $12.3 billion by 2008. Brazilian fashion's image abroad has been given a shapely leg up by the rise of supermodel Gisele Bundchen. The 20-year-old from the southern town of Horizontina was voted Vogue's model of the year in 1999 and has changed the face, and the shape, of international modeling. Her healthy suntan and curvaceous figure have replaced the waif-like, ``heroin chic,'' androgynous looks favored for years. Her much-publicized friendship with actor Leonardo di Caprio and a multimillion contract with lingerie manufacturer Victoria's Secret have transformed her into a worldwide celebrity and style icon. Brazil can only benefit from the attention, says Carlos Miele, CEO and designer for M. Officer, one of the country's most glamorous and successful brands, built on skin-hugging cuts, high-tech materials and lots of sequins.

With 80 stores across Brazil, Miele is planning his first foray into the export market, launching his latest collection in Browns, one of London's most avant-garde stores. Next stop is the U.S. market. Miele is opening an 72,000-square-foot factory outside Sao Paulo to contend with what he hopes will be strong demand from abroad. ``Globalization exists, and within this globalization, there are niches,'' said Miele. "I think it is easier for a Brazilian designer to be invited to create at one of the big Paris fashion houses than to set up his own global brand. But that's what I'm going to try to do.''

NEW SINGLE POSTPONED
The first single from the "All That Glitters" soundtrack was scheduled to be released on January 24, 2001, in Japan. But Sony Music Japan has announced that the single won't be released before May 2001. According to Upcomingmovies.com, the release of All That Glitters has been pushed back several months from April to Fall, 2001. So it makes perfectly sense that the soundtrack and the first single will also be released several months later. This project has been in the works for a couple of years now, going back to 1997.

HOT LOOKS: MARIAH CAREY
"It's about excitement and energy," says Stila makeup artist Joe Latona as he scrutinizes Mariah Carey's look. "This is a woman who is not afraid to say, 'Hey! Look at me!' or call attention to herself. And she's certainly not afraid to try bold, new things." Case in point: Her upcoming feature film, All That Glitters, is loosely based on the singer's life and it marks the first time the diva will star on the big screen. Is she nervous? "I love a challenge," she recently said. "And I guess I like to continue to challenge what fans think about me."

Her makeup palette communicates the same message: deep, fiery shades, ranging from gold to burgundy and applied with a slightly dramatic flourish, demanding that you take notice.

"You get the feeling there are many sides to this lady," Latona says. "She looks like she's having a good time exploring them." And — as her movie title might hint — she's a girl who's ga-ga for glitz.

FUN IN NEW YORK
Here's a message Honey & Tommy send me:

Hello everybody, this is important! We just made a schedule for the meeting in New York. Below you can see, what it looks like! But if you want to join us, please make sure you left your signature at our guestlist!
The first day of the meeting is Friday, December 29, that will be our "TRL" day. So we want to try to visit MTV’s "TRL," but we don’t know for sure if the show airs between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, we tried a lot to get more details on that, but TRL didn’t respond to the inquiries. We are going to meet around 12:30 (P.M.) at Times Square right in front of the Virgin Mega Store. Make sure you arrive in time.
When "TRL" is over we, as a group will decide if we want to visit the Statue of Liberty, or do something else - which will be decided on there.
On Saturday, December 30, you will have time to sleep in the morning. Actually, you can do what you want to early Saturday, we will meet at 4:00 (PM) in front of the Rockefeller Center, there we will take “the official picture” and after that maybe doing some iceskating or just laughing our butts off, while looking how the other ones are trying to move on the ice. Then you’ll have enough time to prepare for the so called “main event”, which will take place at Ellen's Stardust Diner private nightclub room (we will tell you how to get there, when we meet at the Rockefeller Center) from 9:15 (PM) to 1:00 (AM). That will cost you $30! Including all services, like appetizers, singing waitresses, and already a little gift for "Camp Mariah". So we will party the night away.
Sunday, December 31 morning we will do a sightseeing tour – but a very special one! We will do a Mariah related sightseeing tour, at the moment it still looks like that won’t cost anything. If we’re ready with that one there is the chance to visit a Broadway show and after that celebrating the new year – actually it is the new millenium – in groups.
We will sell caps saying “One Sweet Day in New York”, during the whole meeting. You have to pay $8 for one cap, but maybe you could give $10, so there are $2 from each cap we can give to “Camp Mariah”.
That is what we created as our schedule, so hopefully we will have a great time in New York! We really are looking forward to (m)c ya there! And please don’t forget to sign the guestlist! Thank you! That probably was the last update before the meeting, because I (Honey) will leave tomorrow evening So (m)c ya in New York!

    ANOTHER NEW MESSAGE FROM MARIAH
Late last night, a new message from Mariah was posted at her new official site @ MariahCarey.com. Listen to the message below:

And here is the transcript of it that took me forever :P! Enjoy:

(Hi). Yeah, I do believe I went out last night and things of that nature and yeah, I guess what you would say is that I need to stay in bed all day, but I'm not going to do that, I'm going to go skiing and the thing about me going skiing is that it is a complete and utter joke because I'm really bad but it's festive and it's Christmas Eve and I am going to go.

Merry Christmas everybody. I'm sitting here looking at all the things posted, and I know you probably know that. I don't know. And I was going to make a screen name and do all that nonsence but then I thought that maybe noone would believe it was me. I don't know. I guess I don't know if that was the best thing for me to do. You guys write and tell me if you think I should do that and give me suggestions for names and stuff. I am going to leave it to you but I will say the cartoon sucks and we are working on the cartoon. I wanted it to be different and people always foil what I want. Why? I don't know, I am going to get a better one, I am going to get a whole thing. This is just like temporiarly up so you that you guys can be in touch with me for Christmas and I can be in touch with you. But anyway, this message is rambling and is basically saying nothing.

Jack is here and he went swimming in the hot tub last night. He almost killed all of us becuase he was trying to get the jet under the water. He'll never get the jet, He can't get the jet, it's just physically impossible for Jack to get the jet. But how cute is Jack in the video? Come on, come on, how cute is the dog in the video? Anyhow I find him cute. I don't know about you. Alright. And yeah, I love ya and I enjoy ya and I appreciate ya much and right now you all know this message is complete nonsence. So what I will do is hang up and that's the best thing I can do in the state I am in right now. Anyhow have a great holiday and I will talk to you soon. (Bye)

    SONY CREATING NET MUSIC CHANNEL
The as-yet-unnamed channel, scheduled to debut next month, will use Microsoft's Windows Media player and feature Sony Music artists, the companies said in a statement. The companies could not be reached for confirmation.

The European video channel will be available on local Microsoft Network (MSN) Web sites and Sony Music Web sites. It will offer videos, interviews and weekly news on a mix of international and local music artists in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Sweden. Sony Music's artists include Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Ricky Martin and Fat Boy Slim.

Microsoft has taken other steps to increase its music offerings on MSN. Last month, it bought MongoMusic, an online service with advanced music-searching capabilities. That company has agreements with Riffage.com, Infobeat, Sony, Tower Records and Seagram's Universal Music Group, but the status of those partnerships after Microsoft's acquisition is unclear.

After have some technical difficulties, Mariah has finally posted the promised voice message. Hear the message below:

    And, here's the transcript:

"(Sings: 'I don't want a lot for Christmas'.) Yeah, it's Christmas time. Merry Christmas and hey, I'm trying to go out and be festive today, do some more shopping and things of that sort. The site is going to be updated as often as possible. They got the little cartoon on there but I think we need a little bit of work with that particular project but it's going to be cool because I can talk to you guys as much as I want. So, I've been here working on the soundtrack. I'm in the mountains with the nice snow, listening to Christmas carols. My cat's here, one of my dogs. Jack is on his way. And you guys should be able to watch the videos on the site, so naturally, well I am assuming that if you don't know, now you know. The videos are 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' Remix with Jermaine and Lil Bow Wow and that was fun and it was fun to do the cartoon and I enjoyed doing that particular cut and then also, we did a new version of 'O Holy Night (2000),' that I had a really good time doing as well. So, and I basically you can only see them, I guess they are some video outlets, but I did them for you guys to watch on the site and Merry Christmas. Hope you like them. So I hope you guys have a nice holiday and I will be calling you with updates as they arrive. Alright. (Bye)."

MARIAH TO COLLABORATE WITH BON JOVI?
    Here's a message I got from Priscilla:
"I don't know how much of this is true but my roomate goes to an exclusive beauty salon down in central NJ where lots of famous and/or rich people go. She was told by her hairdresser that Mariah rented out a house in this area called 'Colts Neck' where you see nothing but huge estates (and when I say huge I mean HUGE because I've seen them in person). It turns out that Mariah rented the place of someone who goes to that beauty salon or something like that. Anyway, she was told that Mariah was in that house with Bon Jovi and they were working together for several days! I was like "Whoa, is this for real?" Somehow my roomate had sparked up a conversation with her and it led to her saying that I am one of Mariah's BIGGEST fans and that's when she told her about it. Guess we gotta wait and see if this is true!

    TURNED AROUND, BUT NOT TOGETHER
Luis Miguel and Mariah Carey continue their relationship, as confirmed to Univision.com by Carey’s publicist, Cindi Berger. Various media companies confirmed that the diva and the Mexican singer had broken up, but Berger explained the reasons of the seemingly true separation, and it is not the lack of love.

Regarding the matter of Luis Miguel and Mariah, the paparazzi have been given a banquet, literally. Today the couple ate in Paris. Yesterday they had dinner in Puerto Rico, and last week they danced the Lambada in Acapulco. But ultimately the couple has to diet. By the media not reporting constantly about the relationship, certain media reported a false statement: that had the two had broken up. However, the Carey’s publicist, Cindi Berger, contradicted these rumors to Univision.com, alleging that they were separated.

"They are very much together. Mariah is in Toronto making a movie and they will be spending this weekend together. They are very together and very happy," summarized Berger.

Rumors of Depression? Mariah will be happy filming a movie, but they say that Luis is passing the days drowning his suffering in the sea, in Acapulco, on his 15 million-dollar yacht.

An executive of Warner Music Mexico said to our editors that the majority of the rumors surrounding the artist are uncertain, although they chose not to comment upon this specific event. "We dedicate ourselves to taking care of and supporting the musical career of Luis Miguel. Of his private life, we are totally untied and when we are informed of something precise, it is only through reporters and various media sources. Luis Miguel is an artist that, by his importance and projection in the international level, has endless rumors generated about him and that the majority of the rumors are only that, rumors," indicated the Warner Music Mexico executive. It all seems to aim to that the single golden one has been hunted. You already know its Mariah. Sorry, girls.

DOES MARIAH CAREY PLAN ON ACTING AGAIN?
After her cameo in the not-so-successful film "The Bachelor," Carey is set to star in "All That Glitters," in which she will play a singer whose deejay boyfriend helps her get into the music business, then turns jealous and controlling when she succeeds. So may say the role might hit a little close to home for Mariah because the story line echoes her former marriage to Sony Music chairman Tommy Mottola. Judge for yourself when it arrives in April.

"ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU" REMIX

Yesterday evening on the BET show titled "106th & Park", Mariah's newest video debuted. "106th & Park" is an explosive interactive show, hosted by a spicy combination: Free & AJ. Live from New York, "106th & Park" is BET's signature show, replete with the biggest stars and scorching videos. The show includes an interactive format featuring call-outs, e-mails and the Top 10 music videos of the day as voted on by BET viewers.
Renowned rapper Lil Bow Wow made a special stop at their studios to hold contests, meet up with friends, family and fans, discuss his new album, to give a special live performance - and to debut his latest music video, "All I Want For Christmas Is You". This video is a special Remix of Mariah's track. The video is officially titled as: 'Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You (So So Def Millenium Remix) (Featuring Lil Bow Wow & JD)'. Mariah recently teamed up with Jermaine Dupri and Lil Bow Wow to record this special remix version at a recording studio at 5:00 in the morning. In a "MCWNO" EXCLUSIVE we are bringing you the full "All I Want For Christmas Is You (So So Def Millenium Remix)" sound file, only available here. Use the link below to download this exclusive file:

The video itself has Mariah decked out in full toon, cartoon that is. But while most animated videos may seem pointless, this particular video details a story within its footage. The story begins with Jermaine Dupri and his female accomplice requesting Lil Bow Wow to go to sleep so "Santa Claus" will come and bring him his presents. But Bow Wow, being quite to optimist refuses t believe there is a such thing as "Santa Claus", so Jermaine (JD) sends a message to Mariah saying that Lil Bow Wow doesn't believe in "Santa" and he should be arriving soon. While Mariah can't seem to come in contact with Santa, her and her sidekick, her dog Jack, fly off to Santa's house in the North Pole where they discover a sleeping Santa. Apparently, an evil wizard has cast a spell upon Santa unbenownced to the world. She tries to waken Santa in a number of ways but proves to be unsuccessful in all attempts. So, she tells Jermaine her problems and he tells her to use her magic wand she has obtained. Once she uses her special utility, Santa awakens and realizes he is late for Christmas. So, he, along with Mariah fill up his sleigh and are off to deliver presents to all the children of the world. They eventually arrive at Jermaine and Bow Wow’s house – where they find them sleeping. With the slip of Santa down the chimney, the family quickly awakens. Sadly, Santa becomes lodged in the chimney and Mariah has to play the role of Santa. She gives Bow Wow car keys and Jermaine some nice “Bling Bling”. But after she brightens the day of others, at the end of the day she is left lonely – sitting on snow covered steps wishing she was with her love. Then she remembers the magical wand she has, and uses it to turn her whole situation around. The snow and ice covered place suddenly turns into the warm and beautiful island of Guam and the snowman turns into the one and only Luis Miguel. The video closes with a greeting saying “Merry Christmas & Happy New Year”. Certainly a perfect treat for any Mariah, JD, or Lil Bow Wow fan.

CAREY CARES FOR KIDS AT CHRISTMAS
click for larger view click for larger view click for larger view

Mariah Carey has taken 100 orphans for a pre Christmas treat-retreat to her favourite place, Aspen, Colorado, where she met lover Luis Miguel two years ago.
Carey donated the proceeds from this year's hit 'Thank God I Found You' - her 15th US Number One record - to the National Adoption Centre and says the snow and countryside in Aspen are an inspiration to everyone, which is why she's taken the children with her. "There's over 500,000 kids in the system who need permanent homes and families and a lot of times in our daily life we don't think about things like that," " says Carey. "I love Aspen because it's where I met Luis. It's a special place."

"I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER": BILLIE'S FIRST #1 HIT
According to a movie script for "All That Glitters", dated March 2001, Billie's first Number One hit is titled "I Wanna Be Your Lover". This track is said to be an uptempo dance tune and in accordenace to the script, stays on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart for 10 weeks. Because this song is featured in the movie, it is bound to be on the sountrack. Mariah mentioned that 6 of the songs on the sountrack are new tracks and the other 6 by her are covers. "I Wanna Be Your Love" was featured on Prince's debut album and matches very much with the 80's vibe. You can download a 2 minute clip of "I Wanna Be Your Lover" by Prince at the link below:

Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover

If Mariah were to actually sing this, which there is a large probability that she will, the lyrics will be as followed:

    I ain't got no money
I ain't like those other girls you hang around
    It's kind of funny
But they always seem to let you down
    And I get discouraged
Cause I never see you anymore
And I need your love baby, yeah
That's all I'm living for, yeah
I didn't want to pressure you, baby
But all I ever wanted to do...

    I wanna be your lover
I wanna be the only one that makes you come... runnin'!
    I wanna be your lover
I wanna turn you on, turn you out
All night long, make you shout "Oh lover, yeah!"
I wanna be the only one you come for

    I wanna be your brother
I wanna be your mother and your sister, too
    There ain't no other
That can do the things that I'll do to you
    And I get discouraged
Cause you treat me just like a child
And they say I'm so shy, yeah
But with you, I'll just go wild, ooh
I didn't want to pressure you, baby ... no
But all I ever wanted to do

    I wanna be your lover
I wanna be the only one that makes you come... runnin'!
    I wanna be your lover
I wanna turn you on, turn you out
All night long, make you shout "Oh lover, yeah!"
I wanna be the only one you come for, yeah

    "ALL THAT GLITTERS" PUSHED BACK
According to Upcomingmovies.com, the release of All That Glitters has been pushed back several months from April to Fall, 2001. Originally Columbia was aiming for a March, 2001 release, but after 20th Century Fox has come to codistribute, taking the USA, while Columbia will handle the international market, they were aiming instead for an April release. This project has been in the works for a couple of years now, going back to 1997.

All That Glitters is set in the early 1980s club scene and tracks a young singer's rise from a childhood in foster homes, after she is abandoned by her mother, to her success as a singer in an all-girl group, until, finally, she is discovered by a DJ and her career takes off. Besides Mariah, this movie stars Max Beesley, Da Brat, Eric Benet, Tia Texada, Valarie Pettiford and Terrence Howard. It is directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall and written by Kate Lanier.

COCO LEE: MARIAH CAREY OF ASIA
Asian American singer Coco Lee serves up a hot cup of R&B-infused pop in Chinese and English, but her career has not always been as smooth as her rhythms.
Born in Hong Kong 25 years ago and raised in San Francisco, she vaulted beyond her largely Asian fan base last year by singing the theme song for the Hollywood movie ``Runaway Bride'' starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

``It's easier for me to sing in English because I understand every single word,'' she told a news conference before a concert in Singapore last week, sounding like a typical American teenager. ``I couldn't speak a word of Mandarin six years ago.''

Dressed in a shimmering bronze sweater, matching scarf and blue-black jeans, the svelte singer known for her on-stage gyrations said Chinese lyrics at first had to be Romanized before she could even pronounce the words. Now, 14 Mandarin albums later, she manages to write simple songs in the complex, four-tone language. Along with an English release this year, Lee has sold more than 7 million albums. She starts work on her second English album at the end of next year, incorporating tracks by Asian songwriters, and also plans her first Mandarin/Cantonese album for mid-2001.

Lee's funky style and long bottle-blonde tresses have earned her a title she has found difficult to shake. ``When I started ... nobody sang like that in Chinese and the only person they could relate to was Mariah Carey doing all this R&B,'' she said.

``Nowadays, everybody sings like that and people still are stuck on ... Coco Lee -- the Mariah Carey of Asia,'' she added.

But the U.S. music industry was less kind in accepting her when she launched her first English album, ``Just No Other Way.'' Lee, accustomed to San Francisco's racial melting pot and ease with diversity, was surprised by the reaction. ``This is the year 2000. You have people all over the world going into this music scene. For Asian people this shouldn't be a problem,'' she said, adding: ``I did encounter some discrimination while I was releasing this album in the States. It was quite difficult.''

But Lee, a self-proclaimed optimist, quickly brushes aside the specter of racism by saying she was cheered by the support her English album got from Asian fans in the United States.

The youngest of three sisters, Lee was in Singapore as part of an Asian tour that took in three cities in China and moves to Malaysia before the new year. Live performances are relatively new to the singer, who will take an even bigger leap with a world tour starting in February. She gave up her place as a premedical student at the University of California at Irvine for her showbiz career.

But, inspired by her physician mother, she hopes to follow in her footsteps eventually. ``I believe that being a doctor the older you are the better you are,'' Lee said. ``I could be 50 and on the first day of my job people will think she must be really good. She looks like she's got experience.''

    AEROSMITH TO RECEIVE SPECIAL HONOR
Hot on the heels of Aerosmith's induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame yesterday (December 12) comes word of another honor-- the band will receive the award of achievement at the upcoming American Music Awards, set for January 8.

Aerosmith is being honored for its long and successful career, including its more than 30 albums, its ground-breaking videos, and its record-setting world tours. The band is being welcomed into one of the more exclusive fraternities in the music business, as the award of achievement has only been awarded three other times during the America Music Awards' 28-year history--to Prince, Mariah Carey, and fellow Rock Hall inductee Michael Jackson. Besides accepting the honor, Aerosmith is slated to play the new song "Jaded" on the show, which will be broadcast by ABC.

    GRUBMAN GIVING NAPSTER ADVICE
Leading music attorney Allen Grubman has been hired by controversial file-swapping company Napster Inc. to serve in an advisory capacity in formulating a business model that is acceptable to the music industry. Napster CEO Hank Barry confirmed the Grubman hiring late Tuesday.

Recognized as the No. 1 music attorney in the world, Grubman's clients have included Elton John, Madonna, U2, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, John Mellencamp, Sting, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, who severed her ties with Grubman after her split with Sony Music Entertainment chief Tommy Mottola, a longtime associate of Grubman's.

After months of legal wrangling with the major label groups over copyright infringement, Napster entered into a strategic alliance last month with BMG Entertainment's parent company, Bertelsmann AG, to jointly develop a subscription membership service. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has yet to rule on whether Napster should be shut down while the Recording Industry Association of America's case against the online company goes to trial. With Napster chief counsel David Boies serving as Vice President Al Gore's lead attorney in his legal challenges to last month's presidential election, there has been speculation that Boies would step down. But Barry said Boies is still on board and that the cases are not mutually exclusive.

Grubman was a member of Clive Davis' negotiating team during the music veteran's power struggle with BMG Entertainment over control of Arista Records. The dispute resulted in Davis' founding a new label, J Records, in a 50-50 joint venture deal with BMG worth $150 million.

    EAGLES MANAGER STARTS CONCERT COMPANY
Just at a time when it seemed that the concert industry couldn't get more crowded, promoters SFX and House of Blues suddenly have a new competitor to deal with.

The Rolodex clout of music mogul Irving Azoff, combined with the deep pockets of Colorado billionaire Phil Anschutz makes Anschutz Entertainment Group/Concerts West LTD an instant player in the national concert scene. AEG announced it was buying Concerts West earlier this week for an undisclosed sum, after months of behind-the-scenes ramping up to challenge the national dominance of SFX and HOB.

"I'm a crafty little guy who has been in the business for 30 years. I know where things are that need to be done," Azoff said. AEG President Timothy J. Leiweke and Azoff will serve as the company's co-chairmen with Concerts West owners John Meglen and Paul Gongaware retaining their co-CEO titles. Azoff and Anschutz have bumped into each other in the past, but it wasn't until Azoff and Concerts West staged the Eagles' "Millennium" concert at Anschutz's Staples Center in Los Angeles last year that the two giants began serious talks. Between the two of them, they've got relationships with artists and venues, and they plan to leverage those connections into national concert tours, primarily focusing on arenas.

Anschutz's group owns everything from the London Arena to the Los Angeles Kings hockey team. Azoff's involvement comes as being a financial backer of Concerts West, which has done several successful national tours, including the recent Dixie Chicks and Mariah Carey tours.

Concert promotions are the first aim of the new group. "There's a real need in the market for it," Azoff said. "As far as national package tours are concerned, House of Blues seems to pretty much be sitting on the sidelines at the moment." But Azoff adds, "The area where I have a lot of desire to work, is the future of music in the digital world. I can't think of anyone better than Mr. Anschutz and the people around him to help us figure that out."

While some observers may think it's a bad time to get into the national concert-promotion business after SFX bought up many concert promoters nationwide, "it's a big business, and there's plenty of room for everybody," Azoff said.

Besides, he noted, "I represent a lot of artists who are working with this company." Among others, Azoff manages the Eagles, Don Henley, and Christina Aguilera, but he also works with artists and informally advises many more. Already, rumors are starting that the Eagles will mount a tour in the summer of 2001, and it's not hard to figure out who would own that tour. Azoff declined to comment on rumors that Concerts West is negotiating to buy Goldenvoice, another major Southern California promoter. "There'll be a lot of announcements in a short period of time," Azoff said.

LISTEN.COM PROCLAIMS: "MARIAH DEFINED THE 90S"
Some may feel Mariah Carey has the fashion sense of a 1970s porn star, but her dazzling, multi-octave voice defined '90s "diva-tude". She ruled the charts during the Clinton decade - literally, her 1990 debut album alone spawned four No. 1 hit singles and set the stage for Celine Dion's less R&B/dance-oriented approach. Her albums are always expertly crafted and performed, making her MTV Unplugged EP a surprisingly warm change of pace. Carey has entered the new century ready to defend her urban vocalist crown against Whitney Houston or any other iron-lunged singer that her ex-beau, music mogul Tommy Mottola, decides to promote.

NEW "ALL THAT GLITTERS" SONG: "EVERYTIME"
    Mariah Carey
    File Courtesy: Crave
    Lyrics Courtesy: Shayne
A snippet of Mariah Carey's "Everytime", taken from the "All That Glitters" soundtrack has leaked upon the internet. Though nothing has been confirmed about this track, most are positive that this will be Mariah's next single. Others believe that this isn't even Mariah singing. I, however, do believe it's Mariah. If different from most of her other tracks, but Mariah said this project (including the music on the soundtrack) would vary from her previous works. The style of singing Mariah is doing in this track is quite different. I think it sounds too much like Mariah not to be her. I guess we will all have to wait and see. But for now, download the clips now by choosing your format below:

  • Real Audio
  • MP3

Here are the lyrics included in the snippet:

    Everytime you're near
    I burn up inside
I get emotions that I try
    So hard to hide
    If you only knew
    What I felt for you
    Just to hold you now
Would mean the world to me

    MARIAH WHO?
Mariah Carey's ex-husband, record producer Tommy Mottola, has put their bitter breakup behind him by tying the knot with Thalia Sodi, the star of the popular Mexican soap opera Rosalinda. "Now when anyone asks him about his famous ex, Tommy responds: 'Mariah who?' " says a source.

Pals say a beaming Mottola, who has two grown children with his first wife Liza, has learned hard lessons about possessiveness from the breakup of his 1993 marriage to second wife Carey. "Tommy's done a lot of growing up since Mariah," says a pal. "With Mariah, Tommy made a common mistake that happens with older men and young brides. He kept her like a bird in a gilded cage. But unlike Mariah, Thalia's no wannabe living in the shadows of a mighty mogul. She's been a wealthy star since her teens."

    MUSICAL MERGER
New York City's St. Patrick's Cathedral rocked just a bit as suave and slimmed-down Sony Music Entertainment chief Tommy Mottola wed Mexican singer Thalia in a ceremony that drew 275 people. It was Mottola's third marriage (he and Mariah Carey divorced in 1998), and many of his artists came to play, including a solo Jennifer Lopez, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, and Bruce Springsteen, still recognizable despite the facial hair.

WHAT HAPPENS "WHEN SEX GOES POP?"
    Mariah Carey
Before the premiere of the MTV News Now Special Report "When Sex Goes Pop: Not That Innocent" on December 9 at 1:30 p.m., we asked you what you thought of the free expression of sexuality and sensuality expressed by the current wave of female pop stars. Here's what some of you had to say...

Young singers these days are competing with each other to see who can bare more at the youngest age. Why do I have to see Britney and Christina practically naked in every video? Britney Spears is the most annoying of the pop tarts. She can't carry a note live. Why is it that she can sell millions and millions of records worldwide, and has the singing talent of a mule? That is the scariest part of her success. Millions of young girls love her, and want to be her. What is she but a lip-syncing stripper anyway?

At least Christina can sing. I put her in the category with Mariah Carey and Shania Twain. They all wear revealing outfits, but their talent isn't in the clothes. They do flaunt their bodies, but at least they can carry a tune. Image is a very big issue in the careers of female singers, and as sexist as that may sound, its true. Guys can be ugly and still have successful careers. It is just the way it is.
    (Candace, 19 from Boston, MA)

I definitely think that some of the stuff that the young female pop stars do and wear these days is pretty risqué. I especially thought the "Rolling Stone" cover of Britney lying on a bed, clad only in bra and panties while holding a Teletubby, was particularly disturbing. It seemed to be an advertisement for pedophilia, especially since Britney was barely legal when that picture came out.

There's a fine line between sexy and trashy, and it seems like the trend is moving toward the latter, unfortunately. One would guess that this comes as a result of the fierce competition to remain on top (case in point: Mariah Carey's new, overly sexed-up image), as well as the fact that our media continues to be controlled largely by white males who frame the things we see according to their perspective.

As for booty videos, I definitely think that they're gratuitous and exploitative. There's nothing worse than seeing a male singer amidst a bevy of half-naked women who stare vacantly at the camera and are reduced to nothing more than body parts, devoid of any intelligence or personality. In a lot of these videos, these women are likened to nothing more than property, things that one can acquire if a man has enough money. I definitely think that the music industry could do a better job at making interesting (and still sexy) videos without being exploitative.
    (Melissa, 21 from Williamsburg, VA)

I'm young, and I don't think those girls are doing anything remotely wrong the way they dress. It's fun to dress a little sexy when the time and occasion calls for it. Yes, a lot of girls try to emulate a Christina look or a Mariah look, but it's not like they or other girls my age walk down the street like that. They are party looks, dance looks. My generation isn't stupid. We know not to dress slutty in public, but there's nothing wrong with a little stomach. It's sad the way people are acting like these girls are committing some sort of crime. Yes, sometimes Christina looks trashy; yes, sometimes Britney doesn't leave enough to the imagination, but really it's not a big deal; they aren't showing anything we all haven't seen before. I just think these girls should be cut a break. If it was as horrible as people make it out to be they wouldn't be doing it. They aren't dumb either.

LENNY KRAVITZ IN DEMAND THESE DAYS
The setting is outside the Tribeca Grand Hotel in downtown Manhattan. Lenny Kravitz is offering a few reminders of how his job - rock star - is so different from other occupations.

Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige and Destiny's Child have requested his help, he said. They're asking for his song-writing or production acumen, sometimes both.

"They're all challenges," he said. "I like to take on things that are completely opposite from what people would expect me to do, purposely because it stretches you as a musician. And I have the ability to play in a lot of different kinds of styles."

Carey and Kravitz may seem like a particularly unusual pairing, but the two are old acquaintances from their days as scuffling musicians in the New York area.

He still has a wish list of artists he'd like to work with, topped by Aretha Franklin. Kravitz also recently performed a song with James Brown, and he'd like the chance to go into the studio with him.

    TOMMY MARRIES THALIA REGARDLESS
Tommy Mottola and Mexican soap actress Thalia got married anyway on Saturday in St. Patrick's Cathedral despite the no-annulment business. Even weirder, say observers, was this, from one: "It was like a carbon-copy of his wedding to Mariah Carey. Thalia even wore a dress with a long train, same idea on everything." Imitation, you know, is the sincerest form of flattery.

    MARIAH AND RONAN
Luis Walsh, the manager of Westlife, told us that Mariah Carey wanted to make the duet for "Against All Odds" with Ronan Keating. Ronan was very busy, and as a replacement he suggested her to make it with Westlife. In about 48 hours, they did it all, a single and a video. Because of all the pressure the boys look bad in the video. They didn't even have the time to edit the video like they should have, and that is why Brian is peeping into Mariah's décolletage.

It was a star-studded affair when Tommy Mottola, head of Sony Music and ex-husband of Mariah Carey wed Latin soap star and singer Thalia Sodi in New York on Saturday at the city's St Patrick's Cathedral. Emilio Estefan, producer husband of singer Gloria, was best man while a host of pop and rock stars attended the ceremony including Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Bruce Springsteen, Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias and Marc Anthony. Carey, who married Mottola in a similar extravagant wedding in 1993, was apparently absent. Funny that.

    MARIAH IS GETTING MARRIED
Congratulations to Mariah Carey who's finally engaged. The happy guy is Luis Miguel, a very successful Latin singer, who's being considered the Latin Elvis Presley. The multi-millionaire star took Mariah to one of his yachts and there, on the yacht by the sunset, he took out a diamond ring and asked for her hand. Mariah accepted it positively and two days later found out that at one of the marinas there was a fancy race boat at the value of $1 million waiting for her, granted by her fresh fiance as a gift. There's still no specific date for the wedding, but Luis's fans in South America have promised a huge fancy celebration at the wedding day.

"ALL THAT GLITTERS" TO HIT THEATERS IN MARCH 2001
Mariah Carey always seems to be keeping busy sustaining one of the most successful careers in recording history. Mariah is currently working with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on a number of songs that will appear in the up-coming feature film "All That Glitters," in which Mariah will also be starring in.

The movie is scheduled for a March 2001 release and marks the first time the hit maker will take on a major motion picture role, following in the footsteps of fellow recording artists such as Will Smith, Madonna, and most recently Aaliyah. Needless to say Mariah is excited about the prospect of branching out on her past success by making the jump from singer to actress, although she has been dealing with some dark clouds that have surfaced over the last few months. It seems the multi-platinum recording artist is dealing with a lawsuit filed by a pair of songwriters (Seth Swirsky and Warren Campbell) who feel that her hit song "Thank God I Found You," is a little to similar to one of their songs, "One Of Those Love Songs," which was originally released 1998 by Xscape.

TOMMY: THIS TIME IT'S FOR KEEPS
Tommy Mottola & Thalia Sodi For Tommy Mottola, three's a charm.

By tying the knot last night with Latin lovely Thalia Sodi, close friends say the Sony honcho, who's been married twice before, has finally met his love match.

"Thalia and Tommy share a love you are lucky to find once in a lifetime," best man Emilio Estefan, the music-producer husband of Sony songbird Gloria Estefan, told The Post.

Just hours before the ceremony, says another pal, "Tommy was walking on air. He is one happy man. This is the real deal."

Mottola and Sodi - star of the hugely popular Mexican soap "Rosalinda" and a chart-topping Latin singer - were married by Monsignor Anthony Dalla Valla at St. Patrick's Cathedral at the 7 p.m. full Catholic Mass.

The lovebirds were whisked through a back entrance while longtime Mottola pals Joe Pesci, Danny DeVito and Robert De Niro, along with Ricky Martin, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Julio Iglesias, Marc Anthony, Tony Bennett and other luminaries entered through the front of the landmark Fifth Avenue cathedral.

Hundreds of screaming fans crowded the sidewalks around the cathedral to await a brief glimpse of the newlyweds and their celeb pals.

Sodi, 30, looked stunning in a white gown - replete with a 48-foot-long train - by her Mexican designer-pal, Mitzy. When she entered the cathedral, the bride blew kisses and waved to the crowd outside, which shrieked in ecstasy.

Mottola, 50, wearing a black suit, smiled when he made his entrance separately.

After the ceremony, the beaming bride and groom stood on the steps of St. Pat's and posed for photographers, before heading downtown to their star-studded reception at the Regent Wall Street.

Some onlookers couldn't help likening the grand affair to Mottola's extravagant 1993 marriage to pop diva Mariah Carey. But the record mogul's friends dismissed any comparisons to that doomed union.

After a Bali honeymoon, Tommy and Thalia will live in the Fifth Avenue mansion Mottola recently bought. And Thalia has made it plain she'd like to have children - between acting gigs and record deals.

    THE EYES HAVE IT
Mariah Carey, lounging at Sky Bar on a Saturday night. Hell-Ay. Looked divine dressed in black, with a glowing complexion. Her largest accessory: a beefy bodyguard. The delish diva hung with a bunch of buddies at a table by the pool - and actually gabbed with the commoners who dared to make contact. Even wished good luck to a dude holding his bachelor party at the swank bar. Just the kind of behavior some of the gal-pals of Jerry O'Connell should adopt. Also at the joint that night, Jerry was flanked by ladies who weren't terrifically tempting but had total 'tudes.

IT PROMISES TO BE THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR
    St. Patrick's Cathedral THE CATHEDRAL
Like a queen, Thalía will celebrate her marriage to empresario Tommy Mottola, with multiple parties.

The most important celebration will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Saint Patrick's Cathedral on New York's Fifth Avenue.

This gothic cathedral can seat 2,200 and has three organs to ensure that hymns will be heard throughout via an ultra-modern sound system that was first used during Christmas Mass in 1989.

This is the most important celebration because it will be attended by a small and intimate group of friends and family members. Subsequent parties in Mexico and Miami will be attended by larger groups of friends and acquaintances of this power-couple.

    THE DRESSES
Mitzy, the talented Mexican designer, is in charge of the bride's wedding dress as well as the clothing she will wear during her civil ceremony. He has worked with Thalía since the beginning of her career.

Her wedding dress will be embroidered with fine silver thread and pears, which will enhance our diva's fresh, celestial beauty.

The color of the dress itself, has not been revealed, but it is expected to be a champagne or peach hued fabric. The fabrics have been imported from Italy, Germany and France. The bride's shoes will be lined with silk.

Mitzy and his staff are also handling the designs of Thalías relatives, who have been eagerly preparing for the different celebrations of the 'Wedding of the Year.'

On Saturday night, as befitting of a queen, Thalía will wear a diamond tiara.

"Each dress will have it's own hairstyle, which is to be expected. If she changes her dress, she will also change her hair, so she will always have a stylist on hand. Everything has been planed so that her wedding is fitting of a princess," Mitzy's assistents told the press.

The newlyweds will divide their time between houses under construction in Miami and New York.

And while Thalía won't have breakfast at Tiffany's like Audrey Hepburn, she will dine on fine china gleaned from her registry at the world-renowned store.

    COCO LEE REMAKES "HERO"
CoCo Lee "MCWNO" EXCLUSIVE CoCo Lee was born in Hong Kong and migrated to San Francisco when she was 10. She has been singing since she was little and now she's chosen to make a career about it. She is one of the most successful artists in Asia. CoCo's style of music is quite similar to Mariah's. CoCo says the reason why she is so popular is "Probably because I have added some Western style to the Chinese music I sing. My songs are very R&Bish and I do many ad-libs to the songs I sing just like singers such as Mariah Carey."

Which is explains why Taiwan audience have likened her to Mariah. "I'm very honoured to be called the Mariah Carey of Taiwan because she is an international artist with very high standards and almost inhuman voice. One day I hope to be an international artist like her and perform on the same stage as Michael Jackson, George Michael and Mariah." CoCo is a very large fan of Mariah, and on her recent album, one of the songs was written and produced by Walter Afanasieff, Mariah's former producer. Besides that one track, the rest of the songs on the album are oldies but of course with new arrangements. Included in the remakes is "Hero", Mariah's classic inspirational track. In a "MCWNO" EXCLUSIVE, we are bringing you the sound file. To hear it, use the link below:

RICKY MARTIN SINKS, BUT ARCHBISHOP'S RECORD MAY BE NEXT
So much e-mail yesterday from readers about divorcés marrying in the Catholic Church. I do appreciate it - certainly this raised the level of our usual discourse!

Yes, I was wrong - a "get" is a Jewish divorce, not an annulment. And for those who wondered where I got my instant Catholic training - it was from Joe Zwilling, a lovely guy at St. Patrick's Cathedral whom I consider the expert on this subject. Friends of Lisa Mottola called in yesterday to say that she and Tommy, who converted to Judaism to marry her, never received a "get." Got it?

Joe did point out to me subsequently that Archbishop Egan is not necessarily performing the Mottola ceremony. However, I am told that the archbishop and Mottola have spent some together recently. The archbishop is a highly accomplished classical pianist.

A source up in Bridgeport, Conn., where he ran the diocese, said, "He takes it very seriously. He is a musician." Evidently Mottola and Egan have had many talks about music.

So maybe we'll be seeing "Archbishop Egan Plays Mariah Carey's Hits," with proceeds going to the church, in the near future on Sony Classical. I hear anyway that Mottola made quite a substantial donation to St. Patrick's, although his publicist, Patricia Kiehl, denied this to me vehemently.

Tommy and Thalia's wedding reception is being kept hush-hush. I doubt Mariah Carey will be there, or even Michael Bolton (recently dropped by Columbia Records). I'm guessing that Ricky Martin will not be performing either, as the sales of his new album Sound Loaded are very shaky - 193,000 in the 2nd week - and the record has already dropped to number 10.

Maybe Destiny's Child will sing "Independent Woman" - the ironic mix. Anyway, I personally wish these two crazy kids all the best. Who needs an annulment if you're in love? They'll just be livin' la vida loca.

MR. MARIAH CAREY TO MARRY FOR THE THIRD TIME
Tommy Mottola, the man who is Sony, is getting married for the third time this weekend. Mottola's previous wife was his star protege Mariah Carey. He married Mariah in 1993 at an all star wedding in Manhattan but although now divorced, the couple have never had their marriage annulled.

This has created a problem for Mottola who plans to marry his new bride, soap star Thalia tomorrow at St Patrick's Cathedral. Under Catholic law, Mariah and Tommy are still husband and wife as the Church does not recognize divorce without annulment.

A spokesperson for Mariah says she is unaware she has ever signed an annulment meaning Mottola's third marriage tomorrow may be improper in the church's eyes. Fox news reports that when a representative for the Church was asked if Mottola had recently donated money the answer was "I'm not going to talk about that, I can't answer that."
