But dont let that put you off! This is a great read! Christopher Tolkien (JRRs son) has taken some of his fathers writings and published them for the fans to read. They might not be finished but anybody that has read the other books knows how they end anyway!!
This is the book that shows how great the Silmarillion would have been if Tolkien had lived to complete it as fully as he obviously wished. The story of Tuor and the fall of Gondolin is a perfect example of how the full version of the story would have made the Silmarillion the greatest work of fiction ever writen.
As with the HoME series below this is a book that all fans of Tolkien must read!

The History of Middle Earth
These books are not really by JRR Tolkien at all. They have been put together by Christopher Tolkien (JRR's son) and contain the earliest to the latest writings by Tolkien. Although they are not the most exciting books out there, for the Tolkien fan that has read LoTR and The Silmarillion these are a fantastic way of seeing how the stories developed over the years. In all there are twelve volumes (all pictured above) that have been published to date. Worth reading but dont expect anything too exciting!
