Jake Weimer carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Candlestick Park where
the Bat Cracking Bombers beat the Sacramento Soches 2 to 1.

The game was decided in the 9th inning.  After an out was recorded, Joe Torre
smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 3rd of the season).  The teams had
been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

The victory was credited to Jim Bunning(3-0) who went 1/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs.  The left-handed Weimer lost his chance for a no-hitter
when Kirby Puckett homered with two outs in the 6th inning.  Bruce Sutter
earned his 5th save.  Lee Smith(1-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He
allowed 2 hits and no walks in 2/3 of an inning.
