WONDERFUL STUFF

Fabric should be 100% cotton, washed (probably hand washed) and pressed.

The discussion and selection of fabric needs to be done in person by a qualified quilting instructor.

NECESSARY STUFF

Thread

  1. Matching or neutral (light to med) grey, 100% cotton.
  2. Monofilament for machine quilting, smoke for dark fabrics or clear for light fabrics.
  3. Colored thread that matches the backing fabric, 100% cotton.

Rotary cutting supplies

  1. 45 mm rotary cutter
  2. 6 X 12 ruler
  3. 17 X 23 self-healing mat, (Olfa, Dritz)

Other stuff

  1. Basting safety pins or basting spray (Sullivan’s only)
  2. Hand sewing needle for binding
  3. Thin glass head straight pins, 1" or 1 ¼" long
  4. Good seam ripper
  5. Sheet of sand paper
  6. Marking pencil, preferably mechanical, .05 lead
  7. Sharp fabric scissors
  8. 5 ½" square piece of muslin
  9. 5" square of freezer paper
  10. Fine line permanent fabric marking pen
  11. Batting, thin cotton or polyester, approx. 40" square

 

Big stuff

  1. Sewing machine
  2. ¼" foot if available
  3. Walking foot or even feed foot if available
  4. Extra bobbin

Nice to have stuff

  1. 12 ½" X 12 ½" square up ruler
  2. 6" X 24" long ruler

These quilting supplies are items which do not wear out and will last you a quilting lifetime. The initial investment is worth every penny. So, please choose carefully.
