Fabric should be 100% cotton, washed (probably hand washed) and pressed.
The discussion and selection of fabric needs to be done in person by a qualified quilting instructor.
NECESSARY STUFF
Thread
- Matching or neutral (light to med) grey, 100% cotton.
- Monofilament for machine quilting, smoke for dark fabrics or clear for light fabrics.
- Colored thread that matches the backing fabric, 100% cotton.
Rotary cutting supplies
- 45 mm rotary cutter
- 6 X 12 ruler
- 17 X 23 self-healing mat, (Olfa, Dritz)
Other stuff
- Basting safety pins or basting spray (Sullivan’s only)
- Hand sewing needle for binding
- Thin glass head straight pins, 1" or 1 ¼" long
- Good seam ripper
- Sheet of sand paper
- Marking pencil, preferably mechanical, .05 lead
- Sharp fabric scissors
- 5 ½" square piece of muslin
- 5" square of freezer paper
- Fine line permanent fabric marking pen
- Batting, thin cotton or polyester, approx. 40" square
Big stuff
- Sewing machine
- ¼" foot if available
- Walking foot or even feed foot if available
- Extra bobbin
Nice to have stuff
- 12 ½" X 12 ½" square up ruler
- 6" X 24" long ruler
These quilting supplies are items which do not wear out and will last you a quilting lifetime. The initial investment is worth every penny. So, please choose carefully.
