Vandana : A Hindustani Classical Vocal Album

by

Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik

Recently, Mitali has released her debut album, Vandana, in which she pays homage to her Guruji and to the tradition of "Guru-Shishya Parampara". In this CD, Pandit Jog blesses his student Mitali by accompanying her on the Violin. Mitali, in this CD,  presents five exquisite numbers starting with a Guru Vandana. This is followed by khayal in raga Anandi-Kalyan (also known as Nand), ektaal vilambit and a tintaal drut. The third track in this album is a thumri, "Tum to karato bara jori" in raga Kafi, followed by the famous dadra "Koyelia mat kare pukar" reminding us of the ghazal queen Begum Akhtar. Mitali concludes her album with a soulful rendering of a Kabir bhajan, "Mo ko kahan dhunde".  Tabla accompaniment is provided by another young artiste, Ajit Pathak,   disciple of Ustaad Sabir Khan. Harmonium accompaniment is provided by another veteran, Prof. Gopal Rao Phadke.  We believe this CD will win the hearts of many music lovers.
