INTRODUCTION
Institute of Education
and Research (IER) is one of the premier and prestigious institutes of education
in the country. The institute was established in 1960 in cooperation with
the School of Education, Indiana University, USA .
The Department of Business Education is one of the fourteen-degree awarding
programs offered in IER, University of the Punjab. The Department of Business
Education was established in 1962 with its first batch of 18 students. Since
then it produces quality graduates (Executives) in the fields of Business
and Education. The Major objective behind the establishment was to train teachers
in business subjects for secondary schools, Commercial institution, Teacher
training institutions and other such business institutions. Presently the
department offers two master degree programs regular and evening having duration
of 2 years each. At the end of their studies the graduates of the Business
Education Department get the degree of Master’s of Business Education.

PLAN OF STUDY
The Department of Business Education organizes 2 programs, one for the fresh graduates and the other for self-supporting students in the evening.
CAREERS FOR MBE DEGREE HOLDERS.
A master degree holder in Business Education can hopefully look for following
types of career.
. Lecturer in commercial subjects in the Intermediate, degree colleges in
Government and Private institutions.
. Instructor in Commercial Institutes.
. Lecturer in Business Education at University level.
. Junior executives in public and private corporations.
. Secretary to executives.
. Supervisor of office personnel.
. Organizer of secretarial programs.
. Training officer for lower level management.
. Entrepreneur of a small business.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM
. New methods of teaching based
on group discussions, lectures, presentation and student’s active participation.
. New system of examination based on continuous evaluation split in to examination,
quizez, assignments etc.
. Individual guidance to the students under advisory system.
. Closer student teacher contacts throughout their stay.
. Application of knowledge to actual teaching situation through "Teaching
Practice" program.
. Career guidance through placement program
. Informal meeting, Group discussion, Excursion, and Study Tours which help
the development of personality.
. More emphasis on practical aspects of various subjects included in the program
of study.
PHYSICAL FACILITIES
Department of Business Education enjoys the best possible physical facilities as regards classroom, library, Recreation facilities and Computer Lab. To make the teaching effective audio, video aids and like films, filmstrips, projectors and tape recorders are also available.
PLACEMENT OF GRADUATES
The Department of Business Education has very active and effective placement
program. Newspapers, Announcements, mail, phone and personal contacts with
the employers help the placement and follow up of our graduates.
Our graduates have an advantage over the other post-graduate programs that
these can either go in the business and in the teaching field depending upon
the opportunity aptitudes, and interests etc.
Most of our graduates are holding quite responsible and well-paid positions
in both the above mentioned spheres.
TRAINING PROGRAM AND PRACTICUM IN BUSINESS EDUCATION
Every summer a 4-week in service program in content and methods of teaching
business subjects is offered to business teachers from all over Pakistan.
A part from this, business teachers and administrators from different parts
of Pakistan also participate each summer in a 2-week practicum in Business
education conducted by the Department.
BUSINESS STUDENT SOCIETY
The students of this Department also run a Business Student Society .It has
an approved constitution and operates, as a chartered body of students Association
of I.E.R. Every student of the department can become member of this society
by subscribing a very nominal sum. The society manages farewells, welcomes,
debates, picnics, and field trips, Guest Speakers Service, Variety Programs
and other such functions. The society also provides most valuable help to
the faculty and the department in organizing and managing all academic functions
and other activities whereby students also learn a lot.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The Department holds an Annual Conference where in prominent Business men
and Educationists make speeches. Business teachers and executives from all
over Pakistan attend it. It is aimed at exploring the students and faculty
to keep the up-to-date about the developments in the field as well as establishing
good public relations. Apart from its regular speech series, it also arranges
film shows, exhibitions of books, office equipments, etc.
BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATES ASSOCIATION (BEGA)
This is another association of MBE Graduates.
