What's New - July 2005

July 19, 2005 - Busy weekend...i guess i'm on the committee for the General Conference that will be hosted at our church this time next year.  SOOOOO...i had to go to West Covina to see what they're all about.  There's a lot
they did on a very small budget.  It's weird because I don't really have to worry about a budget since I'm in
a corporate environment.

I've got retailers in town this week.  Now...i'm a meeting planner...not a marketing person, not a do-er of presentations.  The corporate communications guy who IS in charge of presentations just got mad at me because he assumed that i was responsible for getting the powerpoints to the meeting.  I asked him, "so...where is this powerpoint i'm supposed to get??" Apparently, he had it on his hard drive...where I am unable to access it.  COME ON, PEOPLE...EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE, LET'S USE SOME COMMON SENSE.  If i can't access something how the heck am *I* responsible for having it loaded on the system???

So...Henry's sister, michelle, is getting married this weekend.  I got a call from our friend, Fuyu, asking me if i had some extra time.  So I went out to burbank but we couldn't do anything because of printer issues.   :(  The good news is that it's only Tuesday...still enough time to get everything done.  Bad news is that i'm tired as heck.  Good news is that Henry's paying the bar bill on Saturday...bad news is that they have me sitting at the same table as my pastor (not that it'll stop me)....good news is that I've got a hotel room there...bad news is that there'll probably be a lot of people staying in that room...but good news is that I'll be so drunk i won't even care.  :)

Congratulations to Ron & Laura on their BEAUTIFUL new home!  It's HUGE!!!  They've done a lot of great work on it already!!  I'm sure they must be on a first name basis with everyone at Home Depot by now. Thanks also for providing us with lunch & dessert!  Tacos!  YUM!  Laura made some great fish tacos!  Sorry for those of you who did not get to experience the magic.  It was tasty.

I went out to the Outlets this weekend.  Holy cow...i went to look for a top for my skirt for Michelle & Danny's wedding next weekend and came home with the top plus a 1/2 dozen others, a dress, and a skirt.  I also got some really cute baby clothes for my friend.  I need to stop shopping.

Highlight of the weekend:  The Sound of Music sing along at the Hollywood bowl.  Much to my disappointment, one of the wine bottles was cracked so erin & I only got to share one bottle of wine between us. Unfortunately, Erin had purchased a pretty expensive bottle of wine but the next was cracked so we couldn't drink it as neither of us had our strainers with us to strain out the glass parts.  The sing along was fun as always - we had too much food, as always.  I was singing too loudly, as always...off key, as always.

Ok, gotta get a cavity filled in my molar.  Boo.  Dr Dina & I are trying to figure out if I should get silver or white fillings. I want white for aesthetic reasons, but I have a feeling I should just buck up and get silver so it actually STAYS in there...

ok, ok, ok...despite the fact that Miles & Jeff have been telling me for years that I'm a moron, this is
the first time I may think they're right.  For the second time this year (and never before this year) I put disinfectant solution instead of saline in my eyes.  My only defense is that it was so early in the morning (5:30am) that it still felt like night so I accidentally cleaned my lens with the disinfectant - i actually had hesitated before putting it in my
eyes...i was going to put it back in the basket for soaking but then i stopped and thought, "oh wait...it's morning" and proceeded to stick it in my eye.

This all has lead me to the new revelation that I'm too stupid to wear contact lenses any longer.  I believe it is finally time to embrace the whole Lasik thing, although I do not 100% believe in the longevity of this particular technology - (does anyone remember RK??  Yeah...the latest and greatest...oh but wait...Lasik comes along...)  It actually scares the living crap out of me.  I mean...Jeff sits there promoting the heck out of it yet "claims" that he can't do it due to some eyeball thing.  Coincidence???   i think not.

So this past weekend I went to Seattle to watch Beth get inducted into AIFD.  It was great having the opportunity to spend time with her.  She was like a baby deer with her long gangly legs trying to find her balance.  She had a hard time walking & talking.  When we first spent time together, she seemed pretty down. By the time I left her she was in good spirits and told me that she was going to try really hard to beat this thing again (i told her that she'd better or I'd
kick her @$$!!).  It really helped that so many people that she knew from work were there congratulating her & spending time with her.  I'm going to try to visit her in Dallas sometime this month.  I think it helps to have people hanging out with her whenever possible...
