What is counselling?

Counselling is about talking privately to a trained person who will listen and accept what you are saying without judging you. It is often a useful  place to talk about something which may be concerning or upsetting you.

What can I expect at my first counselling session?

Initial sessions are for 30 minutes and are free. They are an opportunity for you to ask questions and for me to find out  why you want to come for counselling. This will help us be sure that coming to see me is the best way forward.  If for any reason counselling is not appropriate I may be able to suggest other sources of help. We will also agree fees and arrange a time for future sessions. Subsequent counselling sessions will be for an hour.

What do people talk about?

People talk about anything that may be worrying them or about something they want to change in their life. The type of issues people bring to counselling are:

Relationship  difficulties

Feeling depressed

Bereavement

Increasing self- confidence

Stress and anxiety

Making important decisions

How much will it cost?

My current fees are £20 - £30 a session depending on  individual circumstances. I charge a minimum of £20 to cover supervision, professional indemnity insurance and other overheads.

Do I need to come every week?

Initially I will recommend that you come weekly to enable us to establish a therapeutic relationship.

What about confidentiality?

Anything you talk about in our sessions is private and only discussed in supervision.  I would break this rule only in extreme circumstances and then I would always aim to discuss this with you first.
