Larry Maucieri, Ph.D.
Clinical Neuropsychologist
WELCOME!

What I do:
Greetings! I am a licensed clinical neuropsychologist in Chicago. I provide neuropsychological and personality testing, as well as cognitive rehabilitation and related psychotherapy, for adults, adolescents and children with a wide variety of concerns. I have both a private practice in Chicago and I am an affiliate of the Family Institute of Northwestern University, in Evanston and Northbrook, IL. I see adults (for therapy and testing) and children (for testing primarily) in both locations.

Neuropsychological testing involves a series of tasks to check for possible difficulties in attention, memory, word finding, etc. Doing this helps doctors and other providers to better understand your challenges. (Further details are available
here courtesy of the National Academy of Neuropsychology.) This kind of testing can be used to confirm the presence of dementia, autism, ADHD or dyslexia; to track recovery after a stroke or head injury; or to help find the best treatment options in a given situation. Cognitive rehabilitation involves working with clients to foster greater ableness and to help them overcome the effects of ADHD, dementia, stroke and head injury on things like memory, attention and planning. Therapy adjunct to these sorts of problems can also be very helpful to patients and their families who face these difficulties.

My Approach:
When doing testing, I accurately detail a client's ways of coping and his or her cognitive functions. All neuropsychologists do this. The
difference is that I do this in an understandable, caring and supportive way. You see, to me every client is a unique individual worthy of respect, empowerment and support.

My work in this area began with exposure to disability issues and I still draw on these experiences. I've completed specialized training in neuropsychology at Yale, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, New York University (NYU) and Fordham, and now work clinically to help clients. As noted, I am an affiliate clinician of the Family Institute of Northwestern University, seeing patients in their Evanston and Northbrook office spaces. I am also a Professor and Director of Clinical Neuropsychology at the Adler School of Professional Psychology. At Adler, I teach about neuropsychology and related topics, supervise students' clinical and research work, and conduct research on the relationships between the brain and behavior, thoughts and emotions.

My aim is to provide outstanding service to you, help individuals struggling with cognitive and neurobehavioral challenges to reach their maximum potential, and help you draw on available community resouces as much as possible.
