About Us

4 Your Health Organization is the World's specialized agency for health. It was established on September 29th of 2006. 4YH's objective, as set out in its Constitution, is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health is defined in 4YH Constitution as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. 4YH is governed by 3 Member States through the World Health Assembly. The Health Assembly is composed of representatives from 4YH's Member States. The main tasks of the World Health Assembly are to approve the 4YH programme and the budget for the following biennium and to decide major policy questions.

Wolrd Health Issues

Despite incredible improvements in health since 1950, there are still a number of challenges, which should have been easy to solve. Consider the following:

Medicine
  • One billion people lack access to health care systems.
  • Around 11 million children under the age of 5 die from malnutrition and mostly preventable diseases, each year.
  • In 2002, almost 11 million people died of infectious diseases alone, far more than the number killed in the natural or man-made catastrophes that make headlines. (These are the latest figures presented by the World Health Organization.)
  • AIDS/HIV has spread rapidly. UNAIDS estimates for 2005 that there are roughly:
    • 40 million living with HIV (most in Africa, 25.8 million)
    • 4.9 million new HIV infections in 2005 (mostly in Africa, 3.2 million)
    • 3.1 million AIDS deaths in 2005, (mostly in Africa, 2.4 million)
  • There are 8.8 million new cases of Tuberculosis (TB) and 1.75 million deaths from TB, each year.
  • Malaria causes more than 300 million acute illnesses and at least 1 million deaths, annually.
  • More than half a million people, mostly children, died from measles in 2003 even though effective immunization costs just 0.30 US dollars per person, and has been available for over 40 years.

These and other diseases kill more people each year than conflict alone.

What You Don't Know About The World's Health Risk

Mortality rates for all of the 15 leading causes of death for the total population are higher for males than females in America. Men die almost seven years earlier than women. Men are more likely to suffer from chronic illnesses, to suffer a traumatic brain injury, and to die from acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Men are less likely to exercise and are more likely to be overweight. They are also less likely to take nutritional supplements, such as vitamins, and to spend time taking care of themselves. Some argue that this is in part because men are “allowed” to be overweight. The media may present a man who is chunky as still being very masculine and even attractive (John Belushi, etc). The behaviors and greater awareness of healthy behaviors women exhibit are due in part to the societal value of their appearance and their body. If a woman is overweight, she is considered to be less feminine. Women place greater emphasis on taking care of their bodies which leads them to exhibit healthier behaviors. It is a debated subject but many scientists believe that behavior is the most important factor influencing health and that changes in behavior is the most effective way to prevent disease. Some behaviors associated with hegemonic masculinity include ambition and success-oriented mentality, independence and acting invulnerable, emotional stoicism, aggression, and taking risks. These are accepted behaviors and character traits for men but if they are taken to the extreme, they can be linked to behavior patterns that are unhealthy.

Can We help Earth from its Pollution?

Pollution Worldwide air pollution is responsible for large numbers of deaths and cases of respiratory disease. Enforced air quality standards, like the Clean Air Act in the United States, have reduced the presence of some pollutants. While major stationary sources are often identified with air pollution, the greatest source of emissions are actually mobile sources, principally the automobile. There are many available air pollution control technologies and urban planning strategies available to reduce air pollution; however, worldwide costs of addressing the issue are high. The most immediate method of improving air quality would be the use of bioethanol fuel, biodiesel, solar energy, and hybrid vehicle technologies.
Best Ways to Make Your Health Benefits Work for You
  • Your Options are Important

There are many different types of health benefit plans. Find out which one your employer offers, then check out the plan, or plans, offered. Your employer's human resource office, the health plan administrator, or your union can provide information to help you match your needs and preferences with the available plans. The more information you have, the better your health care decisions will be.

  • Review the Benefits Available

Do the plans offered cover preventive care, well-baby care, vision or dental care? Are there deductibles? Answers to these questions can help determine the out-of-pocket expenses you may face. Matching your needs and those of your family members will result in the best possible benefits. Cheapest may not always be best. Your goal is high quality health benefits.

  • Look for Quality

The quality of health care services varies, but quality can be measured. You should consider the quality of health care in deciding among the health care plans or options available to you. Not all health plans, doctors, hospitals and other providers give the highest quality care. Fortunately, there is quality information you can use right now to help you compare your health care choices. Find out how you can measure quality. Consult the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services publication Your Guide to Choosing Quality Health Care on the internet.

  • Assess Your Benefit Coverage as Your Family Status Changes

Marriage, divorce, child birth or adoption, or the death of a spouse are life events that may signal a need to change your health benefits. You, your spouse and dependent children may be eligible for a special enrollment period under provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Even without life-changing events, the information provided by your employer should tell you how you can change benefits or switch plans, if more than one plan is offered. A special note: If your spouse's employer also offers a health benefits package, consider coordinating both plans for maximum coverage.

  • Plan For Retirement

Before you retire, find out what health benefits, if any, extend to you and your spouse during your retirement years. Consult with your employer's human resources office, your union, the plan administrator, and check your SPD. Make sure there is no conflicting information among these sources about the benefits you will receive or the circumstances under which they can change or be eliminated. With this information in hand, you can make other important choices, like finding out if you are eligible for Medicare and Medigap insurance coverage.
