Scooby's Chronicales for 2007
April 28 & May 5: These past 2 weeks were rain outs so nothing to really report. Jim's been getting the car ready for the new head, (I know I said it was due 2 weeks ago but our poor motor man has been fighting a major case of hungry Allligators, as far as we know he's still ahead of em but not by much), he's got the new carburator and manifold and built all new linkage for the throttle change, so all we're waiting for is the head. Hmm, sounds like the ole Tinman who only needed a heart. While we're at it, we also know we'll have to miss this wekend too because of the head, sp what Jim really needs is for everyone to pray for rain this week and we wil be ready for next week.  Until then have a Scooby Doo week!!!

May 12: Well Jim's down in the dumps, no new head yet but it is promised for early next week. So even though we have no head for the motor, Jim decides he'll go and watch even though there is a very definite chance of rain, he feels it's better to watch than not. So off he goes with the weather looking ever so threatining. When Jim gets to Gorodn Park, he does start a little rain dance and after a few heats the rain gods answer his dance with rain. Phew, dodged another oppertunity to lose more points. So it's up to the machine shop now, especially with the weather outlook for next weekend looking real good. So stay tuned, throw me some Scooby snacks and see ya next week.

May 18: We are not going to even talk about the head tonight, so to start it off what a beautiful day for racing. Jim has put on the new carburator and had the car ready to go Thursday so it's off to GPS.
Tonight we get help from Richard (Pokey) Crook. Pokey and Jim think alot a like (Now there's something to worry about) so it's gonna be a fun night. When we get there Jim get's to draw for position first and pulls a "22" and that lines us up in the 2nd heat position 6. At the start Jim gets a good jump, pulls into 4th and then lines up a pass and slides into and finishes 3rd. Not a bad start. Before the feature, Jim and Pokey get to checking the car and notice a skip at idle, further checking reveals #4 is not firing at idle (?). So after replacing plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, the conclusion is, the head (rut row). The strange think though is that it's not missing on the throttle. So they button it up, Pokey sets up the tires and Jim gets lined up for the feature. We get to start 3rd row outside (6th) and at the green we are flying. Early on we go 3 wide in turns one and two and slide into 5th. A couple laps later Jim is coming outa turn 4 and the car keeps turning giving me a view of the pit wall end and slides it
into the pits. Well when I open my eyes again, we're leaving the pits under yellow. On the restart Jim starts passing the cars in the rear and gets back up into 5th again. A couple more laps and another yellow and someone steals the air outa the left rear tire. Cats, a flat. Well into the pits and Pokey and a couple of other helpers get the tire changed and Jim takes us back out with 2 laps left in the race, ya we're running last but Jim was gonna finnish the race on the track. He actually finnishes right behind 1st and 2nd place cars of Adam and Bubba Nations cept we're a few laps down. We end up 9th for the night. Jim said it's all good, the new head will be here this week and next week we'll be loaded for cats. So till then don't forget  to throw me some Scooby Snacks and see ya at the Park'.

May 26: Well this week things were a little different. First, Jim got the new head from Satterfield's and has the car ready to go. When we get to the track Jim was talking to Lanny Hobbs, the promoter at GPS, and Lanny says he had dug up the track Saturday morning and it might get rough. He was right, it did, although it wasn't terribly rough it sure did shake me around a bunch. The worst thing is that Jim missed the setup and getting through the turns was a we bit different and we couldn't get hooked up coming out of the turns very well. But hey, it wasn't all that bad Jim started 5th in the 2nd heat and finished 4th which put him on the outside 4th row or 8th on the grid. The feature went 15 laps without any caution and we ended up 7th which was respectable but Jim was hoping for some better. JIm was satisfied with how the motor ran with the new head and we'll go home and get ready for next week. So for now think of me at the grocery store, I love Scooby snacks and we'll see you next week at GPS

June 2: Well we have been having a bit of a drought here in the South and today mother nature seems to have decided to give us some releif at the expense of our racing. Remember Gordon Park Speedway will have a 2 day show next week with the National Late Model Series coming in. Heats and Qaulifiying Friday night and Features Saturday night.   See ya then.       Hey Jim how bout some of them Scooby Snacks.

June 9: Made a mistake about  the 2 day show date, it's next week, June 15 & 16. Sometimes that happens when there's Scooby Snacks in front me. Ok well even though I made a mistake I'm just a dog so get over it. Woof woof! This week though we did race. Jim had 2 weeks to play with the car some and after doing a 360 in the1st turn in hot laps and feeling real loose in the 1st heat, which by the way we started 7th and finished 4th, Jim changed the stagger and tire pressures for the feature. We lined up 8th and after some close racing in the first lap(which I got a little too close to a couple of cars) Jim keep moving up and after a few cautions and with 2 laps to go, got the jump on our current points leader Jason England on the last restart and moved into 4th and finished that way. It was real nice to finally get to run with the leaders and feel real competative. Jim said with a couple of more refinments we should be able to improve some more so stay tuned.
Now the Friday and Sat we will be at GPS for the 2 day show with the feature class being the National Late Model Series coming to town. Friday night everyone will run thier heat races and qualifying with some Dash for Cash races thrown in. Sat night will be the features, so come on down and see some of the best racing in the Augusta area. (and don't forget my Scooby Snacks)
