My Flower Beds
(Nobody's more surprised than me to discover my "green thumb")

When we bought this house last August, I had mixed feelings about discovering several flower beds. I've always loved flowers, but have never been very successful at keeping them alive. And these beds were horribly neglected - completely choked with weeds (at least I think they were weeds).

Anyway, I spent many hot miserable hours last summer pulling out weeds, and many more happy hours in the early fall digging in dirt and planting tulips and daffodils. The amazing thing is that the flowers actually grew.. and bloomed ! !

As an added bonus, I even discovered an herb garden ! ! Not sure what all the stuff is in there.. but it sure smells wonderful !

UPDATE: May 9, 2003:
Although the daffodils are starting to die off, tulips are blooming hardily, and even the lilacs along the porch are about to open! Rhubarb is ready for picking!

UPDATE: May 18, 2003:
Daffodils are about gone now, so I've snipped off their little "heads", but the lilacs are doing well and the tree in the front yard (flowering crab?) is in full bloom!

The heather is doing nicely, and i've spoted a cluster of pansies, but there are several more "flowers" (weeds?) growing that I simply can't identify! What ARE the little purple flowers with the spikey leaves?

Phil's garden is starting to show promise ~ so far we can see beets, lettuce, peas, and radishes.

UPDATE: June 27, 2003:
There are several rose bushes, including one beautiful bush of long-stem roses
