Driftwood Habitats
by
Mary Harrison

I have lived on Vancouver Island all of my life.  The Island beaches are a wonderful source of materials for my visual art form "Driftwood Habitats".  Driftwood Habitats are unique, handcrafted dwellings composed as single homes or villages of cottages tucked close together for friendly visits with neighbors.

Driftwood, shells, bits and pieces are gathered from beaches where the wood is washed, smoothed and bleached by the ocean and sun.  Material is also found in gardens and the forest.  (What a wonderful excuse to go for a walk).  Driftwood Habitats have welcoming doors, a driftwood yard with a garden of wild flowers, sea shells, and sometimes a tiny ladybug for good luck.

I'd love to hear comments from visitors to this web page.
