Observation Mountain in Kluane National Park
Yukon Territory, Canada
This trail is called Slims West Trail.  It goes up the west side of  the Slims River valley to the toe of the Kaskawulsh Glacier.  Observation Mtn is at the end of the valley and is the place from which startling views of the glacier are available. It is necessary to cross Canada Creek which I was unable to do when there. This is definitely grizzly country.
There are several creeks in fans like this one that must be forded.  This one is a tip toe one....they were not all like this.
I met other hikers on the trail and partnered up with a young fella from Vancouver. The Slims River Valley is a broad one and the hike is not demanding for the most part.  Still pretty views. This is just three km in.
This rocky spot among low shrubs was the first campsite, called Clearwater.  It's always nice to come to the campsite, get the shoes off and the tent set up and get on with some dinner. Because these are glacier fed streams they are full in the evening and shallow or nonexistent in the morning.  So, it's a good idea to fill the water containers in the evening. This is looking out from the campsite across and up the Slims river to the other side of the valley.
Looking back down the valley from which I've come.  A good view of how wide the valley is.  This is about km 15.4. Beautiful view isn't it?
