The Toad

AKA: The Terrible Toad King
Real Name: Mortimer Toynbee
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men 4
What's His Problem? Long considered an outcast due to his odd appearance, Toynbee struggled for acceptance, usually as a lackey. He used to kiss up to Magneto a lot. And after striking out on his own, and striking out as a solo villain, Toynbee formed a third Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and tried another hand at evil villainy. That didn't work out great either. Currently (as of Generation X 19) the Toad is lurking on Emma Frost's estate, getting his head together.
Favorite Quote: "Yuck!" Vision and the Scarlet Witch (v. 2) 11, after seeing the Scarlet Witch, 8 months pregnant with twins, during one of Toyenbee's attempts to "rescue" her from the Vision.
Powers: The Toad originally had the power to... hop. After getting his hands on some cosmic technology from the Stranger, Toynebee built a powerful battle suit. Later, he somehow genetically altered himself to drop about forty pounds and be able to secrete resin from his hands. It never stopped the good guys from kicking his butt. Mortimer also had the ability to suck up in a manner that would make Weyland Smithers blush.
Heroes He Kept Running Into: While at Magneto's side, the Toad was thrashed by the X-Men and the Avengers. After going solo, he got waled on by Spider-Man and the Vision. As part of the New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Morty got booted around by X-Force, the second X-Factor and Darkhawk.
People Who Don't Think He's So Bad: The Toad once tried to be a good guy, forming a team known as the Misfits that consisted of him, Frog Man, and Spider-Kid. It didn't last too long. Mortimer has long been sweet on the Scarlet Witch ever since the were in the BOEM together, but she had taste (and good eyesight). Mortimer also once played chess with the Eternal, Gideon, while they manipulated Gentex and A.I.M to reform Proteus (must have been a long chess game!).
Most Despicable Act: While never much of a success, the Toad's nastiest act would have to be what he did to Karl Lykos, who thought himself cured of being the energy vampire Sauron. The Toad kidnapped Lykos and his girlfriend, and used some of the Stranger's technology to force her lifeforce into Lykos. It killed her and turned Lykos permanently into Sauron. For a guy who used to say "yes master," more times than Peter Lorre, that was very nasty.
