Map of Martin's New House

*** UPDATE 24 August 2001*** The house is looking in good shape and we have had many visitors including Vincent, Marcos, Jesus and Alison, Gustavo, Paloma, Menchu, Rojo, Lola, Bhavna, and Natasha. We look forward to seeing Denis (husband of Bhavna, otherwise known as Kenny....).

The housewarming party will be happening very soon!

Here's a picture of the house (courtesy of Rojo), and here's a map of its location;

And the answer is No - I did not buy the Technical College!

A better map may be found here at StreetMap.co.uk

Directions on how to get to the house are as follows;

By Road;

From the North Circular or from within London;

Take the North Circular Road A406 until you go along Telford Road in the New Southgate area. At the traffic lights go straight across (don't follow the A406 which goes to the right) into Wilmer Way (B1452) which goes into Powys Lane. Keep going straight on into Cannon Hill and then the High Street until you reach Southgate itself.

From the M25 or from the North of London;

Take the M25 and leave it at Junction 24. Take the A111 going South to Cockfosters. Keep going straight ahead all the way through Cockfosters and across a roundabout until you get to Southgate. Go through the town centre of Southgate (the main street is called Chase Side) until you reach the large roundabout by the underground station where you turn right into High Street.

Directions from within the High Street;

When you reach Southgate Technical College and see the Woolwich Building Society opposite the Fire Station (100 yards from the roundabout) turn into Leigh Hunt Drive which is opposite the Woolwich Building Society. Go down Leigh Hunt Drive and onto the estate and then take the fourth left and then immediately right and you will then find number 165 at the bottom on the right.

(Note for users of old A-Z's; we are probably not on your maps as the house is only 4 years old. Look for John Bradshaw Road and we are just before it.)

By Public Transport;

The nearest tube is Southgate on the Piccadilly line. Once you arrive go straight ahead after reaching the top of the escalators through the exit in front of you. Then turn right and walk up the High Street until you reach the Woolwich Building Society on your right, Leigh Hunt Drive is directly opposite. Go down Leigh Hunt Drive and onto the estate and then take the fourth left and then immediately right and you will then find number 165 at the bottom on the right.

(Note for those who get their left's and right's mixed up; if you are walking down what appears to be a High Street past a Wimpy, Barclays Bank and lots of Estate Agents and Charity shops this is not actually the High Street but is called Chase Side and is the wrong way! The High Street looks nothing like a normal High Street at all and seems to lead out of Southgate altogether. Don't make this mistake!)

From Heathrow airport;

Go to the tube at Heathrow which is on the Piccadilly line and take the long journey to Southgate. Then follow the directions for Public Transport above.

From Gatwick airport;

Take the British Rail Gatwick Express train into Victoria station and buy an Underground ticket to Southgate. Then take the Victoria line to Finsbury Park where you change to the Piccadilly line (just across the platform as luck would have it) and then follow the directions for Public Transport above.

From Stanstead airport;

Take the train into Liverpool Street station in the City of London, then go to the Underground ticket office and get a ticket to Southgate. Take the Circle, Metropolitan or Hammersmith & City Line to Kings Cross where you should change to the Piccadilly line. Then follow the directions for Public Transport above.

Alternatively, you can take the train into Tottenham Hale (closer than Liverpool Street) and then change to the Victoria line heading south and change again at Finsbury Park onto the Piccadilly line heading north. This is quicker than going all the way into London and back out again.

From Luton airport;

This is not so easy - best to give us a call to discuss or avoid the idea altogether...

Out of interest, I came across this aerial view of the house on the web
