Narc

Self-imposed alienation and family ties. Those are the themes in this stark, fast-paced crime drama. El Hombre has seen crime dramas before, like the cops and robbers "Heat", which was also excellent. "Narc" might be better.

It features Ray Liotta as rogue-cop Henry Oak. Oak's an obsessed man battling crime. He's too busy to take care of himself. And he doesn't really care about himself. Liotta gained 30 pounds for the portrayal of Oak. He's alienated from everyone important in his life, but that's the way it has to be. Oak's values don't allow compromise.

Nick Tellis, an undercover narcotics cop, reluctantly teams up with Oak to find the killer of Oak's partner. Tellis is a family man. Oak is not. They're an odd couple teaming up for a common goal. As the plot unravels they're both sucked into the twisted world that took Oak's partner's life.

El Hombre says this is an exciting, unpredictible ride. And a meaningful one too. It won the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah and also will win a spot on El Hombre's "Best Movies" list. El Hombre's "Best Movie" award should take place on May 19th. The DVD comes out in June.
